So when do the classes begin? When are the patterns available, and the dvd's. You've got to do it, these are fantastic.

Thanks for the compliments Sandy. I don't get to do a lot of pyrography, just two or three pieces a year but I have had over forty years experience as an illustrator and have done plenty of drawing in that time, I hope at least some of it was good, I know some was bad, and some was ugly.

Pyrography, after all, is just drawing on wood but with some unique characteristics, which you are enjoying yourself as you take up the art or craft of pyrography. As you indicated in your wish, God does indeed give people 'talent', our Creator has made us all creative in some way or another.

I think the way this talent thing manifests itself, is in the form of:
An intense interest, a desire to improve, a desire to excel and a stubborn reluctance to give up even when you don't seem to be going so well. That's what I think talent really is, you can't be proud of it, just thankful, after all it's a gift.

You are experiencing a talent in pyrography from what I hear from you and see. Well done, keep on going with it, it's important to do it. It's just not THE most important thing.

I just know that I'd have trouble copying a simple mickey mouse drawing out of a colouring book.
I may be dumb but I can lift heavy things........

Thanks Fly, there is one tutorial available on my blog site together with a pattern to download. (click on the word 'Download' or email me a reqest if that doesn't work.) Just work your way back to the start of the tutorial in the earlier posts and follow from there. The blog sort of got side-tracked when it got re-invented as a 'Step by Step' tutorial article to be published in 'Pyrography Magazine' sometime early this year. Nevertheless I think there is enough information to be pieced together on the blog for someone to follow.

I've been a bit slack keeping up the blog lately and finishing projects off in general. Still, I've been pretty DILL-igent in starting lots of new ones, all in frightening states of incompleteness.

I'm sure you're not dumb and I'm not so sure Mickey Mouse IS all that simple to copy. I used to be able to press 150 pounds, which is about half as good as any half decent weightlifter – I think – But I haven't been able to do that since we went metric.

"Yes it is great to be retired or semi-retired anyway, but don't count on it providing you with more time, you'll find you're more pressed for time than ever.

The big difference now is, when someone asks; how long did it take? I can just say 'one season of CSI' and get away with it.

I mostly do pyrography work in an arm chair at nights, giving the TV just that amount of attention it deserves and no more. This is instead of just sleeping in front of it till bed-time.[/QUOTE]

OMG, you're a member of MY species! I can totally relate to these statements.

David, your pyro is lovely. You have a lovely ballance and the detail is incredible!

I always used to think that the people who said that when they retired they didn't ever know how they ever found time to go to work. Never has something been so true!!

I love pyrography and incorporate into my turning when I can. Just simple stuff and it always amaises me how a simple start if a few lines a dots builds into such lovely pictures and patterns.

    Default Of the highest quality

    David,

I agree with all the comments and, from a fellow pyrographer and artist, know that your work is of the highest level. It is clear the influence of your prior illustrator work has had on your pyro work and has combined to create some of the best pyrography work I have ever seen. Know also that there is, if you would ever want, a very good market for pyrography in general but more so for such high quality pieces.

Thank you for sharing and may send some students to have a look at your work as an example of the incredible potential of the art.
