Pyrography work
I've just found this pyrography forum here. So I'm posting some of the pyrography I've done over the last few years.
After retiring from full time work as an illustrator I've been able to get more involved in woodcrafts. So pyrography seemed the logical place to start. My greater interest is woodcarving, particularly Welsh lovespoons, but it's great to find a local (Australian) forum on pyrography.
Apologies for not being able to get the images into a logical sequence... Must be the file names.

Yowsers! Obviously talent helps. A lot.
Very, very nice pieces.
Just out of curiosity, what dimensions are they? And timbers? What's your choice of weapon? Razortips?
Enquiring minds want to know!

Thanks for the kind comment 'Skew'. I measured a couple that are on hand and the Donkey is 370mm X 270mm (image size) and the horse is 310mm X 220mm.
The donkey was pyrographed on european beech ply and all the others on hoop pine ply.
The machine I use is an 'Ironcore' but with a 'Razor tip' pen attached to it. I tend to use nibs I make myself from the wire they supply. I try to make the nib as general purpose as possible so I needn't change nibs often.

I'm astonished, what wonderful and seriously talented work. My favourite is the Owl and the Pussycat's. Do you sell your work?

Every so often you see something that really stops you in your tracks.... That's amazing (and amazingly detailed) stuff.
Cheers,
Dave...but together with the coffee civility flowed back into him

Thank you for the encouraging comments everyone.
I have sold one 'sjt', but I haven't really expected to sell them, I've just entered various shows with the view of perhaps teaching pyrography sometime in the future, or maybe providing patterns with a step by step instructional DVDs.
Yes Jim and 'Goonyella', it is great to be retired or semi-retired anyway, but don't count on it providing you with more time, you'll find you're more pressed for time than ever.
Jim, I was really fortunate to be allowed to play like this as my job for decades, but my playtime then had deadlines. I'll just bet that like me, you and other 'woodies' take their 'play' very seriously indeed. The big difference now is, when someone asks; how long did it take? I can just say 'one season of CSI' and get away with it.
You see, I mostly do pyrography work in an arm chair at nights, giving the TV just that amount of attention it deserves and no more. This is instead of just sleeping in front of it till bed-time.

WOW Top designs indeed. Top talent too. Am totally lost for words.
Makes everyone else look second rate.
I ," play with,' a bit of woodburning too when I have the time to spare,- but nothing like the detail, and skill level shown in your pictures.
Goes to show what talent and skill plus the patience to design the interesting and unusual can do. Top marks for you.
