    Default Here's what started it.....

How about a transport forum, I'm sure people are travelling about all the time and could pick something up/drop something off for other forumites,
Maybe something like...I am travelling to x and can pick up x within 20km of x and will return on etc, etc,

I don't drive any more, so this would suit me well. Great idea!

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

I think it could work, would have to be tempered with a few proviso's tho, like parcels no heavier than 20kg or is it 25kg? Whatever the current max is for one person to pickup, don't need people to be hurting themselves, or I have a 3 tonne truck and no I can't take 5 tonne! but I can chuck a board on no worries in exchange for a few $ or stubbies or.... that sort of thing, I don't know how this sort of thing would turn out if someone did hurt themselves, could be a legal minefield, perhaps some OHS person or such might be able to comment.

But in general the idea is that at times most of us on the forum will want stuff picked up from somewhere and I'd reckon there would be a forumite out there driving from here to there and could (without it be a huge hassel) be able to pick up and deliver, I've done it myself, delivered a few bits of wood to forumites on my trips to Bris, most of the details would be worked out between either party and it could be a good way to meet other woodies if only briefly.

Yep, so someone who lives in SA driving to Tas and happens to be going for a holiday (and gonna pickup some HP or T.blackwood) yes we know the real reason could take the lathe, deliver and......do there thing....

Prior to getting roof bars transporting any large item needed planning or was just avoided. If I buy one sheet of MDF I may need additional items to help secure it or prevent it folding in transit. While roof bars are limited to 50-60kg they certainly make life easier.
Nothing more annoying than having to pay transport on one or two items of timber or board that does not fit in the car.
