Some forgin' events Oct 2012
Well how exciting, i might be a first 'post-er'.
Any how some news for forging enthusiasts out there.
Campbelltown Steam and Machinery Museum (NSW) are having an open 'day' on the weekend of the 13th & 14th of October (2012). A few of us (at least) are going to do some 'smithin demos for the public. see The Campbelltown Steam & Machinery Museum Website - Home for more information.
Look forward to seeing you there. Donations of a heritage shed for future expansion will be eagerly looked into
Also at end of October is the 'Get Hammered' event down ~southern highlands (kinda) NSW. see; Get " HAMMERED " at MOONY'S - Page 25 - Blacksmithing, General Discussion - I Forge Iron
This is my other favourite forum 'iforgeiron'.
Hope to see you somewhere, there are forgin' buffs in each state.
Thanks forum administrators for this new section.
regs all,
AndrewOC

G'day,
here is something of a de-brief. Saturday; had about a dozen blacksmith's turn up for some tinkering and chin-wagging (mostly this). I met a few keen fellas who are also local to Sydney and have an interest in antique machinery.
Sunday; a handful of us could stay for a second day. It was spent mostly talking to the public between heats; some interesting tales of forging in the past.
Notes for your 2013 diary; 18/19th May: Campbelltown Steam and Machinery Museum open day.
3rd weekend in September Sydney Antique Machinery Club Rally.
October; CSMM.
See you all about the traps,
AndrewOC
PS on the lookout for 'rustic' shed building materials, lineshafting and small antique powerhammers
p.m. me!

Thanks for the update Andrew.
There was a guy at Ironfest this year with a couple of power hammers for sale.
I didn't get details sorry but they looked like nice units. He was one of the smiths set up in the smithy area if that helps. Those were the droids I was looking for.

Thanks NCArcher,
Moony (Ironfest regular) is a good aquaintance, he made it to Menangle on the Saturday. We would be most keen for an old 'hammer, though, in keeping with the CSMM aims of preserving antique machinery.
'Moony' also has an event at his place at the end of this month, look on www.iforgeiron, for those that arre interested.
cheers,
Andrew.
