Default australian portamill "the little ripper" bandsaw mill

I believe the Portamill and Little Ripper are two different devices.
The Little Ripper is attached to a stationary bandsaw and used in a shop. On a typical 14 inch saw, a 1/2 inch 3tpi band will do well
The Portamills are attached to the log and used in the field.
These use a chainsaw for cutting.
    Which one?

thanks for the reply the portamill the little ripper is an Australian portable bandsaw mill made for Bush milling in remote locations similar to the Laidlaw mill. I know of the wood working attachment you are referring to for a vertical bandsaw and it is not what I am looking for. the portamill little ripper is much rarer and I am not surprised that most people have never heard of it or seen one.

I use a Portamill with a 50mm 1.5 TPI blade driven by a Honda 5.5 Hp petrol engine via an adjustable chain drive. This machine has been used for many years and does an excellent job considering the small motor. Just fitted some new 50mm 1.5 Tpi blades from McDivens Vic. at only $39 with the photo shown cutting a London Plane log. Whilst I do not have a manual these machines are very straightforward and easy to adjust and maintain but seem to be better suited to 50mm blades rather than smaller sizes. Did get the wheels retired about 5 years ago and each year the roller bearing guides are replaced otherwise it just runs without issues.

Dinasaw legs.jpg Hi I'm new to this forum. I have also just bought a second hand Little Ripper which needs a little tidying up before using. Would anyone have a picture of what is supposed to be on the bottom of the tripod legs? mine looks like it may have had turnbuckles on each leg but these have obviously been broken off at some stage. I'm not quite sure what the legs are supposed to sit on.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Gday all, I am a newby to the forumI have recently acquired a little ripper which has had some very sensible modifications added to it. I will send some pics once I have it put together. In the meantime has anybody have or know somebody with a little ripper 6 metre lattice rail for sale? There is very little info available on the internet about the mill , are any members aware or any sites or videos of the little ripper? Thanks heaps.

    Hi,
our machine is quite old and has been extensively modified over the years and is on its second motor. It is permanently installed in a shed and the vertical uprights are bolted down onto the concrete floor. We also have a set of adjustable rails on the floor with rolling carriage with high and low stoppers and log tie downs. We have also made the main track rails that the saw unit runs on linked so we can use a battery operated drill to quickly raise and lower the unit. We recently noticed wear tracks in this track from many years of the bearing carriage moving along the to so we inverted these rails and all is well. I will take some more pics tomorrow. We have also installed a strong electric winch in the shed which makes it much easier to pull logs onto the saw. Cheers,
    Paintman

Thanks Paintman. I think I have figured out the leg set up on mine now. I looks like there 3 pegs for each end that can be driven into the ground and the turnbuckles hooked to these to level the end posts. Hopefully I'll have a bit more time soon to have a look at my saw and motor and see what needs doing to them to get it up and running.
