New Bandsaw on order.
Hi Guys (& Girls),
Just waiting for notification from Gregorys that my new Laguna 18" bandsaw has landed. While I'm not yet sold on their top of the line Resaw King blade, I may look at getting their Driftmaser Resaw fence if I think it is worth the outlay, although I still have a bit more research to go yet before I make my final decision.
As always, any and all comments or advice will be gratefully accepted.
Cheers,
Bob

Hi Bob,
Congrats on the new acquisition, I couldn't justify the Laguna fence at 400$, but I'm not aiming to do such precise work. I figure with a fair bit more fiddling around I should be able to get reasonable results out of the magnetic bandsaw fences, although I'm still waiting on a mate to grab me one of his spare 240V motors before i can do any real testing.
Cheers

...post back with your thoughts on the 18" Glenrob, I think there are a few here that are interested in this machine.

I was told last week that the container was supposed to arrive on the 12th. So fingers crossed that we hear something this week.

Hey Glenrob if you don't mind me asking how much did you pay? For the item and shipping? You'll have to post photos once it arrives and the first cut

Hi everyone,
Thanks for taking an interest in my new acquisition. Latest news is that the container has arrived and is being unloaded as we "speak".
As for what it's costing me Delbs, I can only quote you the listed price as per their website so far which is $2195. As for shipping to where I am in Goulburn, it's around the $250 mark I think.
My major reason for getting a machine of this size is purely for it's resawing capabilities. I live on a small property (70 acres) and have all the trees I will ever want at my disposal.
I'm still tossing up about which fence to get as there are some nice aftermarket ones out there: Kreg looks ok and is cheaper than the Laguna system. I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with either before I make up my mind.
I promise to keep you all updated on the whole process and purchase as it happens.
Cheers,
Bob

Totally envious. The Kreg fence won editors choice on a review in a mag I just read. Unsure of which one, it was borrowed, but it convinced me to get one for my third hand rusted up Chinese reject POS.

Hey Bob, after seeing this post i had a look at the range on the laguna website. Looks like you have a pretty decent unit there. The addition of which ever fence you decide on will help with your re-sawing capabilities. I am too looking around for Bandsaws and keeping an eye on this to see what you think of the Laguna. I have some extended family over Goulburn way so i should pop in and say hi sometime to check out the new machine. Let us know what you think of the saw
Ps, got any photos yet?

No news yet unfortunately
Evanism,
Thanks for the results regarding the Kreg fence. I've checked it out about as much as I possibly can on line, so I think it'll be the one I'm going to go with especially considering it's about 1/2 the price of the Laguna unit. I've tried to get them to give me something for nix as an incentive for going with their product, and so far I may be getting a blade, but certainly not the Resaw King blade ... at least I tried.
Delbs,
I haven't heard anything from Gregory's Machinery since Monday so hopefully I'll get something from them soon. As you all can guess, I'm getting pretty anxious (as so it seems are you guys) to get this new saw into my shed.
You're more than welcome to drop by and see the saw when it arrives or anytime you happen to be down my way. Glad to hear you have family near here, so you now have a good reason to go visiting more often.
As I live here alone, I'm always happy to have visitors drop by especially those who share my interests.
Cheers,
Bob

If youre in sunny goulburn, it's only an hour away. We are both in Canberra. The road trip would be nice.
We are pondering a trip to the Sydney show. I went to the Bungendore wood gallery yesterday for a sticky. It was amazing. The talent on display is VERY worth the time.
It was good to give the HSV a howl on the curvy hills.

Re: New Bandsaw on order.
For sure I'd be happy to go visit if we could organise a date in advance. You could show off the new Laguna i used to live in bungendore so i used to see a lot of the work out there but that was before I had an appreciation for it as I do now. Should head out and see it again from my new perspective

I remember giving my old HT GTS Monaro it's head many years ago around the roads near here, but marriage and kids put an end to fast cars until I took up Corvettes in '99. I had a 64 and a 77 Vette with both being modified to suit my own tastes. Long story, which was a big part of my life when I had them. Last big driving event was at Sutton quite q few years back with a drive to Bungandore to finish the day off.
I wasn't into wood work back then obviously, but they have gone now being replaced by tractors and ride on lawn mowers. Still have lots of pics tho to jog my memory now and then.

Maybe we could arrange a swap for when we come over Glenrob? Lets say that i bring in my ute and some (not much at all) Douglas fir that I'm looking at getting re-saw for some cabinet making for exchange of a nice bottle of your favourite drink? it could be a chance to show off the new saw and us to chat and for you to have a glass of <insert favourite drink name here> ?
Or if not not a problem at all still happy to come along and enjoy the drive

Delbs,
Any time I can help someone out whether it be with my time or any of my tools or equipment, I would be only too happy to do so. I would never ask for any form of payment. I do it just for the pleasure of doing something to help out a friend.
As soon as my new saw is up and running, everyone is welcome to either come and see it or run a few bits or your favourite wood through it. It's all fine by me.
Hopefully we'll have more news next week about how things are progressing.
Cheers,
Bob
