Bandsaw advice and price please
I have an opportunity to purchase a seconhand Metabo BAS317 Precision bandsaw. It is from a deceased estate, we dont know what its worth or if they are a good machine. I believe Metabo are a good brand, it certainly seems large enough for the work I want to do. Does anyone have any experience with this model, what did they cost new etc. is there anything in particular I should look for when I inspect the machine more closley? I do want to offer a fair price to the nice lady that owns it.
thanks for any info in advance.
cheers

The web shows the 317 has been replaced by the 318 which is around $880.
Assuming it is in fair condition, nothing important is broken on it I would say half RRP would be a fair price to the seller and to you.

I agree. Sort of the unwritten convention on used items.

I had this model of the bandsaw. It was fine for me, worked well - only replaced to get a bigger and sturdier one. I didn't like the blade guides though, and if I was to keep it, I would replace the guides with some of the aftermarket ones (this will come close to the price of the second hand saw!)
If I remember correctly, when new it was around $600 mark. Price of used would depend on the condition - if truly excellent condition, then 400 would be a fair price. Check the tires - if they are worn, you will need to replace them soon, this will add to the price.
