First few bandsaw blades - what to get?
Hi folks,
At the show over the weekend in Melbourne I put a deposit on a new 14" Powermatic. The price was too good - managed to get a discount on the discounted price! So, before it arrives, I'm thinking about blades. I'm new to bandsawing so have no idea what would be a good first set of blades. Have read that the bi-metal blades last much longer than the carbon ones so am leaning towards them.
Most of my work will be:
- general curves (e.g. curved draw fronts, table legs)
- straight cuts (e.g. ripping, stuff that I might normally do on my tablesaw)
- occasional resawing
Are there any general rules for bandsaw blades I need to know about?
Thanks,
Af.___________________________________________________________

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. Very helpful. I'll do some ringing around tomorrow and see what the experts tell me. Will report back.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Did the ring around and Henry Bros are posting a couple of blades for me today.
Bi-metal. Ripping blade 3/4" 1.25TPI, and a 1/2" for general cutting/curves and things.
Cheers,

What made you go with HB over McD? I hear a lot of people commenting favorably about HB, so it would be good to get reasons behind those opinions.
Be interested in your opinion of the blades and the service when you get them.

I normally use 1/4" 6 TPI band saw blade for cutting curves ansd 1/2" 3 TPI blade for general cutting/resawing.

Hi Afro,
Why wood you want to buy from Sydney + Postage, when you have a perfectly Great Supplier in Vic.your own backyard.
I'm not associated with them, but I do let all know just how good they are.
Been dealing with them for some 15 yrs. maybe even more.
