which bandsaw to buy?
I would like to get a bandsaw for our workshop at home to create deco stuff, wooden toys, puzzles, letters / names etc. Could anybody give me advice on brand, power and other usefull tips before I go and get one without spending thousands of dollars? Some people gave me also advice to go for a second hand but I'm hesitant because there is no warranty on used bandsaws. Thanks for your help, guys. Cheers, Elli

If all you are going to do is small stuff as you said then a Carbatec 250 would do the job but if you intend to make furniture etc then you should get one of the many 14" saw on the market.

You should not have to spend even $1000 to do the sort of things you refer to. Something like this 14" saw should do the trick and be pretty darned useful for basic furniture making as well.

Which Bandsaw to buy?
Hi All,
I am looking for a bandsaw for luthier work (Guitar Building) and possibly some resawing. Can anyone point me in the right direction, and just as importantly steer me away from any lemons that are out there.
Cheers
Graham

Also looking for a decent band saw
Hello all , I am also looking for a band saw that will serve my purpose..I mainly work with hardwoods such as red alder and teak at the moment and I want to be able to rip into strips...I am a little in doubt as to how much horsepower I will require to do this..Some say a 2 hp...I had a look at one of those 17" band saws made from General that takes a 1/2" blade...Looked nice and all but for $1800.00 is that what I am looking at to do this type of work? I see there are many 1 hp and up models out there but my concern is will a 1 hp labor too much through wood like teak and red alder or not is the question?..Your input would be much appreciated.
regards,
Terry

the issues i had was is that you will soon realize that it has not enough power ,not wide enough once you start turning different shapes, i dont know what the blade guides on the one you are looking at but they were substandard on my b?? 250, if you go ahead and buy a 10'' i would like to contact you in 6 months and see what you think then........bob
