    Default Bandsaw electrics

    Hi All,
I have a Carbatec 19" Bandsaw which has been running quite OK. This morning I was checking blade tension, adjusting blade to perpendicular etc and vacuuming dust from nooks and crannies in cabinets. When I tried to restart, the saw will no longer run. It starts but stops again when I remove finger from the switch. I have checked the cabinet safety switch on the top door but all seems to be OK. Any ideas???

The switch is probably magnetic and relies on 2 bits of metal making a reasonably good magnetic contact to hold the switch ON. Often they get full of dust and just won't make contact. Compressed air usually works.

Sounds like you may have dust in the switch, try pulling the switch out and blow with air or vacuum.

    Thanks Penguin Avery and Acco,

Checked the safety switch without any joy, Pulled out the start switch and blew it out with air and hey presto. All is now go!! I must admit I was surprised how much dust was on the switch. You would think that switch could easily be isolated in a dust free compartment! Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

Interesting thread! I guess I have to check my saw’s start switch.
