    Post Bandsaw Tyre (tire) advice

Hi, I've been a forum member for many years, and am fairly familiar with most woodworking machines , but have never had a bandsaw. I've just purchased my 1st ever bandsaw which is a 1960's Woodfast 18'' and it's in very good original condition, but requires new tyres. I've removed the old rubber tyres, which appear to be flat, but I'm unsure as they are old and perished. I've cleaned the wheels, and they are definitely flat. I've purchase a set of urethane tyres , but they are also flat, and was wondering if crowning is required. Any information, thoughts and experiences would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Greg

Hang out, I'll track down the post in my restoration thread where I crowned my wheels before putting on urethane tyres.

Woodfast Junior Restoration - Advice needed

Give that post a read and then scroll down a bit and you'll see where I glued the rubber in place.

Do your wheels have grooves in them or are they flat?

G'day bueller, I fitted the urethane tyres today. What a bugger of a job. my wheels, like yours, are solid and not spoked, which makes clamping difficult. After soaking them in boiling water for about 10minutes, a few timber wedges and another set of hands provided by my son, I got them on. I cant test yet,as I don't get the blade until next week, and will try it then to see if it tracks alright without crowning. I've read many posts and articles regarding flat tyres on flat wheels, and it apparently works for some, so I'll just wait and see. I must admit it looks nice seeing some new colorful tyres on an old machine. Cheers Greg
