    Default Bandsaw tyries

    Hello Everyone,

I have an old 3 wheel Metabo bandsaw. It works pretty good but today I had a disaster. One of the tyres came off . I took the saw to the local Metabo shop to buy a new tyre. They do not sell this kind of saws for years and didn't have any spare parts. Just a few minutes ago they called me that their Metabo supplier doesn't have this tyre as well anymore.
I am in shock as I love this saw. It probably has nonstandard tyres. Is any repair shop in Melbourne where they can help me ? Tomorrow I will travel to Carba Tec but I do not believe they can help me somehow.
    Thanks.

I was looking for some parts for an old Elektra Beckum BAS500 17" bandsaw which is the same as a Metabo BAS500...
I rang Metabo warehouse in Scoresby on ph#1800638226 selected option 2 and spoke to James in "Technical Service".
While the original part wasn't available James worked out an interchangeable part from another bandsaw which has worked just fine.
I'd encourage you to go direct to James in Metabo Technical Service before you start running all over the country trying to source an aftermarket part.
    Cheers, crowie

    Thanks for your answer.
Today I spoke with a man from that service shop in Scoresby. Probably it was James or his colleague. He took the broken tyre and promised to call me if he found any other solution. He simply didn't have any other tyres from different Metabo saws on the shelves to try them on. I asked him to compare my tyre with the other tyres from different machines but my impression was he didn't hear this or didn't want to. He promised to call me one day if he run against any solution. Maybe he will but I need to cut wood tomorrow and eveyday. It sounds a bit silly to buy another bandsaw because I can't find a $10 spare part for my absolutely perfect machine .
Is it possible to custom make a tyre ?

I know this may sound too simple, but I did a quick google seach under bandsaw tyre replacements and got a heap of hits..
May I suggest trying that with the brand, model number and or size of the wheel from which the tyre is to fit..
    Good luck, cheers, crowie

You could try asking your bandsaw supplier if anyone locally rebuilds tyres. Up here my local guys put me on to a vulcaniser who did a couple of 18" wheels for me.

As Crowie said, eBay shows the way here.

    And,...
If you cannot find your exact replacement, or at your price,
Sulphur Grove Tool USA will make any tyre, after you send them your requirement and measurements.
They call 'em "tires" you know.

I found the same saw in Germany. Here is the link:

    http://skinflint.co.uk/eu/metabo-bas...s-a333491.html

And here is the link to the tire:

    http://www.weden-metabo-service.de/M...ANDAGE-BAS-380

They sell the same saws but to not ship spare parts to Australia. I called to my German friend and he bought 3 spare tires for me ! So, I am saved.

If you ever get stuck again I was given some links on another forum where you can get them custom made I believe but I think it is in the states so there is a lead time

Woodfast Machinery in SA will do it for you. They used to advertise the service in the back of the "Australian Woodworker". Www.woodfast.com.au
