BS blade cock up
The blades I'm referring to are for a Band Saw Mill but the source of them is a well known east coast supplier that has a reputation on these forums for first class service and supply all manner of blades.
I discussed our requirements over two phone calls (very helpful and pleasant) and then ordered (on behalf of the boss) by phone , two, 5325 mm long, x 2" wide x 1.3 IPT (yes I do mean IPT) bimetallic blades i.e. VERY EXXY.
What was sent was 5535 mm long x 1 TPI blades.
We needed them in a hurry so we used express air post for which we paid an arm and a leg.
The smaller TPI we could live with but the length is impossible to accommodate on the BSM.
To confirm my order in writing I wanted to send the company an email but they don't do email, only fax, which I don't have.
So nothing is in writing and the Boss is away and will be wondering why I haven't milled anything when he gets back.
I will call them tomorrow and see what they say and report back if this is going to be a better news story or . . . . . .
The one small mercy is that as they are too long so at the very worst I could get the blade shortened locally, probably for less than the cost of freight in both directions - not that we should be paying for this anyway.

problem solvered
I'm pleased to report there has been a pragmatic and speed resolution of the problem.
I called the company (Henry Brothers) and they checked their written notes and sure enough I was right - WHEW.
Craig was suitably apologetic and immediately organised for a local Perth based company (Hughsans) to shorten the blades.
I took them straight over and the Manager? (Kevin) was most helpful and they were done while I waited - took 10 minutes.
While I was there I had a look around their workshops which was very interesting - as it so happens I may be visiting them again as our Wood Working Association is probably going to visit Hughsans in the next few months.
Moral of this story is to get the length in writing and double check!!!!

And just to round this story out, this arvo I managed to get down to the Tree Loppers yard where the Bandsaw mill is located and tried out a new blade.
The Mill itself needs a bit of a tune up but those new blades are slicing through the Spotted Gum logs like it's hot butter.
So now I have to get cranking before the boss gets cranky.
The tuning up is interesting - some features aspects of regular upright bandsaws apply but others are not so straight forward or quite different.
Adjusting the blade tension is easy and can be done very consistently because this is done using a small hydraulically jack arrangement with a pressure gauge - why don't ALL bandsaws use something this simple?
