    Default Carbatec Bandsaw

I have a Carbatec bandsaw that is about 6 years old. The blade tensioner is short so that to tighten the tension I am always knocking my hand against the housing. Does anyone know if there an extension to the tensioner - or if there is an after market one?

If it's the same as most 14" bandsaws, Gary Pye Woodturning probably has them, but you may have to buy the whole assembly. Hare & Forbes have them, but they're dearer then GPW and you definitely have to buy the lot.

    Default Carbatec Bandsaw

go to website for highlandhardware.com and click on bandsaws and accessories then click on items page two at the bottom and you will find a Spinner Bandsaw tensioning crank. Not cheap at US$49.99 but it works beautifully.
I couldn't find one in Australia but it was over 12 months ago so you may be able to find one locally.

You can make your own mod cheaply.

Unfortunately the linked video no longer works but the picture gives you a rough idea. Problem is you still need to twist this knob heaps to apply / release tension. A quick-crank is probably the way to go.

    Hi,
I bought a bandsaw recently from Carbatec in Auckland and had the same problem with my knuckles hitting the side of the upper wheel housing.
I went down to the local ironmonger and bought 1 metre of threaded 10mm stainless steel rod. I cut it down to a suitable length and then replaced the existing threaded tensioning rod + handle with this length of stainless steel rod.
However, I was then without a handle at the top of the rod so I went to the local machinery shop in Auckland and bought a 10mm internal threaded triangular knob. I screwed 2 locknuts onto the rod where it was jutting out above the top of the wheel housing, then screwed this knob onto the top of these and added another 2 locknuts onto the top of the knob. I tightened the locknuts top and bottom so when I turned the knob, it turned the stainless steel rod to tension the bandsaw.
It is not pretty, the lock nuts keep on unlocking every now and then, but my knuckles no longer hit the side of the wheel housing. Total cost was around $15 NZ
