Clean surface rust from band saw blade
I needed to clean some surface rust off a band saw blade today prior to slicing up a log to make some coasters for a wedding table and came up with this idea using a sanding block sitting under the guides. To my surprise it cleaned it up quickly and very efficiently

By Mineral Spirits do you mean something like Mineral Turpentine, could you just use WD-40 or one of those, I guess the only thing with using something else is that it could affect the finish on your piece if it is silicon based... How much rust do you think would have come off the blade if you had just cut through a piece of scrap wood as opposed to using sand paper? I have a number of blades to clean up when my bandsaw is operational.

Yes. I like WD 40 too but I prefer mineral spirits . WD is water displacer and it only contains 50% mineral spirits so, wd40 alone won't prevent the rust.
