Decisions decisions
G'day
About to pull the trigger on a new bandsaw.
I've been umming and arring for weeks over these two band saws.....
I'll probably be satisfied with either one.
I'm leaning towards the Laguna with it's 3hp motor over 1.5 on the Jet.
I'm using it more for intricate work more then anything else and plenty powerful if I do some resawing down the track.
Although some not so good reviews on the ceramic guides on the laguna.
Was told it needs replacing more often then the normal bearing guides.
Thoughts?

May I suggest an alternative?
Have you considered second hand? you dont need a brand new bandsaw, do you ?
If you have to go with either one, is it possible for you to view them both in reality?SCM L'Invincibile si X, SCM L'Invincibile S7, SCM TI 145EP, SCM Sandya Win 630, Masterwood OMB1V, Meber 600, Delta RJ42, Nederman S750, Chicago Pneumatics CPRS10500, Ceccato CDX12

trust me, I've been looking at ebay / gumtree and machinery4u for quite a while, and nothing seems to come up around my area (VIC) ones that do come up are the 9-10 inch ryobi or 909 type bandsaws.

Well, a member called Glider had a Jet 14", but maybe not the same one, and he recently purchased the Laguna 14" BX (one model down from the Suv). The bulge in his apron hasn't diminished in some weeks.....
I saw it in action (erm, the saw, that is) and was very impressed - very quiet, and a very smooth cut with the TT blade he was using. I think the ceramic guides might just be one of his favourite things about it.
I'll send him an email to see if he can respond to your thread, but he may be a little short of time atm.

The Jet looks like the recently released model.
They are similarly specified machines but the major difference is motor size.
The Jet is 1.5HP and runs of a 10A circuit.
The Laguna is 3HP and requires a 15A circuit.
So the Laguna has more grunt but if you don't currently (he he) run 15A to your shed then it might be a show stopper.

All true other than to say my old machine is a Carbatec badge engineered jobbie which is under-powered and squeals like the roller coaster at Luna Park. The power, ease of adjustment and silent running characteristics of the Laguna are all outstanding and the disc brake is instantaneous.

I like the idea of the Laguna with more power etc to run the larger blades for the large possible cuts, but I worry about using those larger blades around just a 14" wheel. IMO fatigue will kill the blade before I would normally get a life (including resharpening a number of times) out of it.

if thats the case, then I would go with the Laguna if I were you. have a look on Sawmillcreak.org, you will see a lot of woodworker bought the SUV and are happy with it.
