    Default Durden bandsaw dust extraction

I have an old Durden bandsaw. It has no dust extraction port. Im thinking of cutting in the cover and add a 5" port. Any suggestions of the best location for a dust extraction port?

If only one ducting inlet/collection point was to be attached to a BS I would not put it on the cabinet but hook it up under the table as close as possible to the blade as this will catch more dust than any port in the cabinet.

If you have more than one duct available then the next place would be in the cabinet. Just cutting a hole in the cabinet won't draw much dust/air out of the cabinet as the cabinets are relatively well sealed so there is no way for the air to get into the cabinet. The way to improve the air flow here is either to leave the door ajar or add a vent like this.

BTW this BS has two cabinet dust collection ports, the one at the top as shown which collects SFA and another on the other side on the lower right hand corner of the cabinet.

I would be pretty easy to cut a hole in the cabinet and then screw and seal the adapter (as shown at the end of the pipe in the right hand picture) over the hole.
This is a 4" DVW floor ducting flange available at most big hardware stores.
The a short stub of 4" duct will slide straight into that and some 4" flexy will go over that,
