    Default Old Eagle band saw

Hi guys and dolls as well as aliens coming by on the occasional UFO flight.

I have an old Elephant 14 inch band saw that I'm absolutely in love with. I wish to do some refurbishment with the gear that holds the blade under and over the plate giving it a true cut. Don't know what this gear is called. I'm also looking for a good fence. Made one of timber but does not work that well.

Any ideas and can't spend a fortune. Still trying to sell my lathe Vicmark 150.

    Thanks guys

    Roger

I think that the gear you are talking about is called the blade guides.

If the machine is the same as the photos that Treecycle posted, then the easiest way to upgrade the guides may be to use Olson Cool Blocks in place of the blocks that are currently in the place. I suspect that the size may be similar to those used in Delta 14" bandsaws, but a bit of measuring might help.

I relation to a fence, I made one for my Paulcall bandsaw using magjigs to hold it down. The best feature was something to keep the fence parallel to the blade - I achieved that by having a second part of the fence that lay against the back edge of the table.
    Cheers

Does it currently have blade guides and they are worn out or are you starting from scratch?

Looks like it for sure but it's name is Elephant. My guess is they are rebadged wherever they go.

Yes, it seems to have all the gear. I had a look on Carbatec's website but not much info given. I wish to do the job once and enjoy life if you know what I mean.
