I send you sympathy and wish you good luck.
After much anticipation, I went on a two day guided walk throught the Whirinaki Forest Park 4 wks ago. Towards the end of the second day walk I tripped over a tree root, and put my back out. I was barely able to get into my shed for two weeks, and since then the garden has got away on me and -- oh blast!

Whirinaki was the scene of the last confrontation between the loggers and the conservationists in NZ in the early eighties.

Saw some marvellous big totaras, rimus and other nz native trees, and a pair of our rare blue duck - only 40 left in the world. The trip was worth the pain.

Get the pills, get the physio, and do the exercises and you'll soon be right.

Get along and see a Chinese Doctor - Accupuncture, then you'll get to play sooner.
It is the best I've found by a mile in regards to getting me back on my feet the quickest.

Try a Chiropracter. I used to think they were witchdoctors, until one fixed my back instantly, after 3 months wasted with conventional medicine. Can claim on the health funds too

Thanks for all the good wishes, the back is back to normal, and sawdust is being made. And I have to say, the 17" CE from carbatec is fantastic. Works just as it ought to, and safety features out the wazoo. Can't recommend it highly enough.

One day - if things go well, I'll put my back out moving a brand new 17" carba-tec band saw. (Very exciting!)

As for your back - I'm with Rob on this one - get a diagnosis first, then you can get the right kind of treatment (don't put up with it for 3 months). I work with elite athletes and the Doc who looked after the Queensland Reds (rugby union) hangs out in Brisbane - he's very good at this sort of thing - Dr Mark Young is his name.

Oh yeah, the pills are good too!

You're too modest - you've got a brand new, "nothin's gonna stop me now" 17" band saw, your back's better already, AND your wife's a physiotherapist! You should buy a lottery ticket!

And what age were we when we had to include the cost of physio in figuring out whether it's cheaper to DIY or hire muscle? Our last house move four years ago we saved several hundred dollars by moving all our own boxes, and spent at least that over the next few months in doctor/physio/pain pills/zoltaren etc.

Not sure what I'll do when the teenage boy moves out.
