Jet bandsaw
I have read several posts about bandsaws and the pros and cons of 10' and 14' units - can anyone let me know how a jet bandsaw performs?

All I can say is I wish I had one! If I could afford it I would buy one now!

can't speak for the 14" model, but I have a Jet 18" and it cuts beautifully.
Quiet, no vibration and accurate straight out of the crate. I cannot imagine the 14" being any different.
Cheers stevenThe hurrier I go, the behinder I get.

Hi If you can afford it buy the JET 18X-3 it is indeed an excellent unit.
I agonised for some time over buying a smaller unit - the excellent Powermatic 14 CS.... but I have no regrets.
The bigger JET has less vibration and does indeed cut well out of the box and more versatile in the re-sawing department than smaller bandsaws. If you can still get a good deal on the Hammer N4400 (previously much more expensive than JET) I believe it's even better!

Hi Leon,
I have a Powermatic 14" bandsaw which as far as I can see is the same as the Jet in most respects (except for a few small things like a Carter quick release, lamp and sawdust blower). I find it to be a great machine (put a decent aftermarket blade on it though - the Jet ones aren't fantastic). I added a 6" riser block to it to get the additional height for resawing and that's the only thing that has given me problems. The alignment holes in the riser block put the wheels out of alignment so I had to drill the holes out and align manually. So if I had my time again I'd probably buy the 18" version for resawing capacity - it would probably be Jet or Powermatic again. So all in all very happy with the performance.
Cheers,
Gibbo.
