I have to say, although Laguna in the States were quick to respond, I am very disappointed at the lack of any response from the distributor here in Oz.
Other than an email back from the receptionist on Tuesday advising that my concerns had been passed on, which only came as a result of my request for a response to my original email of the Saturday prior, I've heard nothing from them.
I find this lack of communication from a very well known and well regarded supplier rather concerning and strangely unprofessional for this company.

So, this is like a case of factory defect. It would be more likely for replacement.

Yes, that's what Laguna in the US have said as well after seeing the photos, which they are now taking to the manufacturer in Taiwan.
My email yesterday obviously had an effect and the owner of the distributorship is heading down to have a look at it himself today. Sounds like quite a nice guy (from his telephone message), so I'll follow up here with the outcome once he's been.
However I must admit that my confidence in the product has taken a bit of a hit and I'm thinking I'd rather take a refund and buy the Minimax, which was my other option.....

Talk to Paul Edmunds from Gabbett, he gave me a huge discount for a s400p, mainly because they shutting down operation here... The quality is what you expect from an Italian manufacturer, I am very impressed with all the details, if I ever need to buy another machinery it will be MINIMAX/SCM, probably the CU410 elite s...
here are the photos of my s400p at same location. Not perfectly aligned at the dead centre( less than +/- 3mm each way. but it's good enough for me.

Thanks Albert, I'd been talking to the guys at Gabbett prior to choosing this one, but not Paul Edmunds. The guy I spoke to wasn't overly helpful, in that I think he just wasn't up to speed on them, but I was able to gather the best information from the web and forums.
I'll see what transpires from the visit today. Unfortunately I'm working away from home so won't be there when he visits.

Well the very good news, on two counts, is that Alan Gregory (Gregory Machinery) dropped into home this arvo and inspected the band saw, agreed that the frame was severely distorted and I gather hadn't seen one before like that. He's arranging for his guys to pick it up and will replace it with a new one, that will be constructed and fully inspected in the showroom before being delivered.
I say good news on two counts as this also confirms and reinforces for me the good reputation that Gregory machinery has deservedly gained.

Congratulations Larks. You're lucky you live in Queensland. I bought a Laguna Platinum saw that has a problem with the blade being quite difficult to raise but no problem lowering. I have not been able to figure out what the problem is and as I live in Melbourne it is practically impossible to get anything done about it.

I'm currently researching bandsaws and looking quite keenly at a Laguna, I also live in Melbourne. This is one point that I have been considering. Is distance a problem do you think? Are replacement blades readily available?
I see from the web site that the nearest Laguna rep in Vic is in Mildura, but I suspect he is an agent referring business to Gregory's.

Dave,
Blades are the least of your problem. Laguna do sell blades for their machines, and I have a Re-Saw King on mine. However, my back-up Re-Saw blade is a Lennox, at nearly half the cost. (I'm told woodslicer blades are also good). I plan to use it only when the Re Saw King is away being sharpened, but many folks have never fitted a Laguna branded blade to their Laguna saws. Please remember, the Laguna is a nice saw, but it is only as good as the blade fitted to it. Avoid cheap blades like the plague.
I am very happy with my SUV, which I bought for re-sawing and cutting veneers. It does a great job, producing nice uniform thickness veneers. I kept my old Trade Tools el cheapo machine for general work like cutting curves so I never need to change blades/set-up on the Laguna except when the blade goes away for sharpening. This set-up works a treat.
Cheerio!

Hi Mr.Fez, I have just noticed that Woodworking Warehouse in Braeside have Laguna bandsaws. Also Get Working are Harvey agents so might stock The Harvey bandsaw. I believe Harvey and Laguna come out of the same factory.

Many thanks Safari
That seems to take care of any issues I may have had.
