    Default Positioning of thin blades

Hello, I am about to try a thin 3/16" 10 tpi blade on my 14" bandsaw. The tyre is about 1" wide.

Can anyone please advise on the best location for this blade on the tyre i.e., in the centre ( where the teeth may be in contact with the crown of the tyre) , or at the edge of the tyre near the rim?
    regards,

    Dengy

    Hi Dengy

The teeth should be in the centre of the tyre. That way they are supported.

On the topic of thin blades .... I have just taken delivery of a couple of thin Wood Slicer blades from Highland Woodworking (USA). These are specifically for resawing. They are 1/2" wide and variable 3-4 tpi.

I tested one out on curly marri. On the left is a standard bimetal blade (3 tpi), and on the right is the Woodslicer. The top of the board shows a slow cut, and lower down where I pushed the board through the blade more quickly.

    Regards from Perth

Thanks for this advice Derek, and thanks for sharing your good news about the Wood Slicer blade. I have used the bimetal 3tpi for quite a while - your new blade looks much better cut, much less loss of valuable timber resulting in more veneers each board, and much less sanding and planing to finish the resawn boards.

Another case of a picture worth a 1,000 words

The deepest part of the gullet should be in the center of the tire. It works on me all the time.
