Default Query about 16 inch LEDACRAFT BS-400 BANDSAW

Does anyone know this machine? At $1353 it seems a good price.
I don't see Ledacraft mentioned much, how is their reputation?
Only odd thing are the cast alloy wheels, does this matter very much?

Take this for what it's worth as I have only ever had 1 bandsaw, have not had it long and still have a lot to learn.

I recently bought a second hand Ledacraft 14" bandsaw. It is several years old but has been looked after. It seems to me to be well made and from your post I imagine it would be similar quality to the current 16". It does have a cast table and wheels.

I am very happy with the capabilities of mine. I was experimenting with cutting through some 50mm thick jarrah last night and the blade was wandering but this is because I wasn't being careful. I also used it to find a nail recently so had my first go at sharpening a bandsaw blade after a 10 minute lesson at the "internet academy". Although it cuts quickly again it may be biased due to uneven sharpening - further use will tell. When set up properly I think it would handle this with ease.

The fence is very good - it locks solidly into position. I have read about some that wobble and to me that makes them of little or no use really. There is a mitre attachment that is not so good as there is clearance between it and the sides of the slot it runs in. I need to shim it up so it maintains a constant angle.

Like many bandsaws these days mine was made in Taiwan and while I think some (possibly many) people would consider this a sign of inferiority I believe there are many good things coming out of there these days. I believe some of the other brands eg Carbatec also source from Taiwan and apply their own badge. From my experience I think the Ledacraft brand is fine.
    Cheers, Bob the labrat
