Request for information about Premo Bandsaw bed size 450x430, throat size 380
I recently bought a Premo bandsaw of an old style, very heavy, with the intention of refurbishing it. I have seen pictures of similar models - one 415V and the other 240V. Has anyone any information on this make and model of bandsaw - handbook perhaps or experience.

Welcome to the forum.
Cant help with info as I dont know the brand but it looks to be a good solid machine. I cant see anything obviously wrong with it. Provided the motor works then
it is just a clean up and a blades. Tyres, belts and the guide bearings will be the most likely things that require attention.
Regards
John

Many thanks John. I have decided to strip the machine to have the body sandblasted. In taking it apart it seems the main and ide bearings are in good condition, most of the rust is surface/minor, and the machine is complete except for a tyre on the bottom wheel and a drive belt. I'll look into converting it to 240 volt though the 415 motor looks sound.
One issue that has surprised me I the number of different spanner sizes involved.
regards and thanks again

G'day Mick,
I'm a bit of a Premo owner also!
From 'Trove' (the National Library digitised newspaper) website I have learnt the following;
Goodall's and Co (1890 - 196??) were Sydney tool merchants, based in 301 Kent st. For a potted history, see the article below:
08 Feb 1954 - Goodalls Had Origin in 1891 - Trove
'Premo' machines appear to be a name Goodalls used on machines made by various builders, two examples I can confirm are bench metal lathes by Brackenbury & Austin (Sydney) and pedestal drill by Servian.
The earliest Premo reference I've found is July 1939, latest I suspect ~1960 to 1970.
I also recently scored a Premo bandsaw, though a fair bit larger than yours, about 30" throat.'Waratah' spring hammer by Hands & Scott c.1911- 20, 'Duffy, Todd & Williams' spring hammer c.1920, Premo lathe- 1953, Premo filing machine.
