Default Resaw King off a Laguna - where to sharpen?

I have a Laguna SUV with a 1" Resaw King blade. It's carbide and it's magic. The resawing it does is simply beyond belief.

Rather that wait until it dies, I want to pre-empt the sharpening question and see if anyone here knows where to get it professionally done by someone who KNOWS what they are doing.

Today I went to our local sharpening guy, who has an excellent reputation, and enquired about this.

There was some serious humming and ahhh-ing while he was eyeballing me to determine if I was a tradesman or "the public". He settled on $44.

When I described it and how it's carbide with variable tooth spacing he seemed to want to back track a lot. He went into how they no longer make blades but buy them wholesale and even sharpening those were almost a waste of time. He even crapped on about how carbide teeth have "issues"...blah blah blah...yadda yadda. More backpedaling than in a circus.

I have very little confidence that my $230 blade with "5 to 7" sharpens will come back either with the right geometry or any carbide to give it a second sharpen. Too much risk.

Seriously, I want someone who really understands these blades to do a good job, even if that means couriering it.

Anyone know of such a place? (please, don't just provide names of good sharpeners, I want to know WHO can do it)

The phone is most probably your best option but a good start would be Henry Bros.

I ordered this saw and blade combo from Gregorys this week and I asked them that very question....answer....Henry Brothers. When my credit card recovers I intend on buying a second blade so I can send the first one off for a week or 2 to get sharpened and still use the saw. Would be interested to know how much it costs for the re-sharpen

Evanism, did you sort this out as I am sure a few here would have the same question.

My first thought went to Henry Bros when first looking for blades. I know they sell a customisable carbide tooth one very similar, so it was a logical choice.

I've not yet rung them, but will do so closer to the event.

On another matter, my local guy knows how to sharpen a saw, but only in one way it would seem. Two blades in, one being a generic Green carbide and the other a Freud Fusion Thin Kerf with a magical grind that provided an unbeleivable finish to my very special box woods.....despite very clear understanding and provision of instructions from Freud, that magic grind was destroyed for an ultra generic resharpen that removed 90% of the tooth. It no longer cuts anything like when it was new....seems I need to find a new sharpener all together, not just for bandsaw blades.

Australia is getting a bit too much for me. Nobody seems to care about doing the right job any more.

    Post King Resaw Sharpening

I too will have this requirement in due course.
I've just sent this off to the Laguna people in the USA for your edification and others who may be interested.

"Hello, I and a number of other members of the Australian based www.woodworkforums.com have recently purchased the Laguna SUV 14 and the King Resaw Blade. The King Resaw Blade is claimed to have a resharpening life of 5 - 7 times. Whether this can be achieved depends on how well the blade performs with the notoriously hard timber commonly available in this country. What we would like to know is, if there is a company or Laguna Agent in Australia that you can recommend as being able to sharpen the King Resaw blade to manufacturers specifications. If there are no Australian companies to be recommended can you please quote a price for shipping and sharpening from Australia to you in the USA and return (to one address say Sydney, New South Wales Zip 2000 or Melbourne, Victoria Zip 3000 for redistribution to individual owners here). Also would it be more economical for us, as a group of Laguna owners using the King Resaw, to send a shipment of blades requiring sharpening to you in bulk. If so, what would the cost be in that case for say: 5 to 10 blades; 11 to 20 blades and 21 or more)."
    Thanks
    Mike
PS. The SUV 14 and the King Resaw Blade are a brilliant combination for the work I do,. I can't speak for other owners but I'd guess from comments made on our Forum that many would agree.

As you can see I've asked for a bulk sharpening quote and if that's what ends up happening, then I'd be happy to arrange the transaction on behalf of anyone who has the King Resaw Blade. It would be necessary to have your blades in need of sharpening within a reasonable time-frame as everyone else of course but that can be sorted later if this progresses.

I'll post their response here when I get it.
    Cheers

    After some feedback...

Did anyone have their Resaw King Blade sharpened by Henry Bros and how did it go?

Or did anyone send it back to Laguna and how did it go?

Just watched a Laguna youtube video. Laguna suggest you ship the blade back to them (as with Hiroller's link) Laguna re-sharpen it on the jigs and machines it was originally produced on.

Probably a good video to watch:

I bought a Lenox CT Woodmaster from Henry Bros a few years ago for my CarbaTec 21 inch bandsaw. It cost about $170 I think. Great blade it still works well even after a tyre broke and threw it against the steel cabinet. I lost about 20 tips (out of over 200). Cut is smooth. Just needs a few light passes on the drum sander to remove the teeth marks.
