    Default Startrite Bandsaw

I noticed that WMV who sell Laguna also sell a 20 inch Startrite Bandsaw.
They seems be very well made...... Are these made in Italy?

Had never heard of these before. Did a bit of looking, and interestingly, found this page: https://www.recordpower.co.uk/search/q/startrite that seems to indicate they're a model of bandsaw under the Record Power label?

They're listing them on their website as industrial units, and whilst I"m a complete newbie to most things woodworking, the machines look pretty darn good to my eye (speaking primarily based on the photos on the site).

I know that doesn't yet answer the question of where they are made, but might give you some further places/sources to look at

I may stand corrected I believe they are made in China by Record Irwin who are owned by Stanley Black & Deckersame as anything else made in China some is good most is rubbish, I would not purchase with out inspecting in person

That brand name conjures up a mental image of a bandsaw with a flooded carburetor.

I am pretty sure Richard Raffan used one of these for cutting his turning blanks.
So at point in time I assume Startrite would have been a good machine - despite the unfortunate name.

I suspect these originally came from Italy - but just about everything has been “gonged” these days including Australian manufacturing. If it’s made in China - at four grand I’ll pass.

I d rather pay extra and buy a Felder Or Minimax and support the European manufacturers who are committed to quality, service and will hopefully be there in 10 years - just in case you need a spare part.

If we don’t support them there will be only be one choice!

Startrite is a popular and, I believe, populist brand in the UK (similar to Carbatec here).

Startrite Machinery was made in the UK like Wadkin Bursgreen and was about the same quality.
I guess rather than fold up like Wadkin they have like Woodfast here moved their manufacturing offshore.
