    Default A thick circle

Was wondering how easy or hard it would be to take my wife's latest project comprising fiberglass resin, super glue and God only knows how many ALDI pencils all set into one heavy 200mm square (sort of) x 90 mm thick solid block and actually square the dam thing up before cutting it into a circle.

Well actually it was not that bad so I took a few photos of it and the circle jig.

Sorry about the lighting, the BS LED spots are so bright they close the iris, didn't know until I looked at them on the PC.

The jig has nothing under the base, no stops, just a flat piece of MDF.

The only thing that really moves on the jig is the blue strip that holds and guides the timber into the blade.

The jig is placed onto the BS table and the recessed small shiny metal strip is aligned to the correct cutting position on the blade, the jig is then clamped to the fence.

The Fence is now moved so that the blade is lined up with the jig ruler for the Radius of the circle.

There is no silly searching for the center, just push the blue slide pin into the timber

Flip the timber over and into the slot, slide timber into the blade and close the silver retaining gate at the side of the table and now turn the block to cut the circle.

I believe she is going to make some kind of a bowl, I guess I'll just have to wait, I think it will come apart on the lathe but apparently it's been done by others so what would I know.

Hope this is ok to post in the BS forum: This is a smaller test one my wife just finished, she wanted to try the leftover pencils and turning this small one before attacking that large pencil slab I posted at the start, gives an idea of what the results might look like.
