Default anyone using a Laguna Resaw King blade on a 14" saw?

With Black Friday around the corner, Woodcraft has 20% off on this blade. I'm hoping to get some feedback from someone using this blade on a 14" saw. I don't ever see myself buying a larger saw and realize my Delta's 1 hp motor might be under powered but hoping the carbide blade will make up for it. It's expensive but hey, a early Christmas present.

I have used one for a year or so now, no problems provided you keep the gunk off it. Have not been able to find someone to sharpen it, which makes it a pretty expensive blade. Have used it mostly for resawing veneers

Hi Dengy, have you not heard of Blade Runner at Garbutt.
    Link here.
    Sure hope he's still operating.

    Cheers, Ian

If you want to save more, find your local saw sharpener and but your blades from them. They will make them to size, they can make them with the same materials, and they are truck loads cheaper.

I just Bought a 1/4" and 3/8" carbon steel blade (4000mm) from my local mob, $20 each. I cant remember what I paid for the last resaw blade, but it was cheaper than anything of the shelf by nearly half.

Thanks for the comments Ian and Pearo.
Ian, I use Mark at the Blade Runner a fair bit, but he can't sharpen carbide teeth on a bandsaw blade.

Pearo, the Lagyuna Resaw King is a carbide tooth blade, hence the added expense. But it is good, once you set the bandsaw up properly. I normally use Henry Bros for purchasing my other bandsaw blades and tablesaw blades

    Hi Wood Miser,
I use a Resaw King on my Laguna 14twelve. I have found it to resaw and cut veneers very effectively even on our very tough hardwoods. I wouldn't say that you end up with a dressed face but it takes very little finishing to get a flat usable surface from a sawn face. The 'secret' seems to be the sharpness provided by the TC teeth AND the variable tooth spacing which appears to stop harmonic vibration of the blade that results in a corrugated surface on the cut face.
I made a decision on Day 1 to only use the Resaw King blade on cuts deeper than 100mm (4") as I am suspicious that cutting thinner pieces with only a few teeth in the kerf reduces the 'set' on the teeth?
All in all, I am very happy with it.

I use my Resaw King for Special Occasions.

It is ferociously expensive but very worth it IMO. My saw is a 14" Laguna SUV and it drives it well.

The finish is exceptional. The blade has no offset at all. It cuts very smoothly, even the most terrible timbers and burls.

My day to day big blade is an American made Lennox Woodmaster CT which was(is?) 1/5th the price and gives a cut that is pretty damned fine. This blade is also a carbide toothed blade.

The RSK did snap recently. Henry Bros in Sydney repaired it and sharpened it for $15. A bargain! They did a great job.

I didn't know this Dengy. I don't have any CTC blades yet......but I did purchase one last week which I expect any day now. I had plans to go to Mark for sharpening when needed in the future sometime, very disappointed to hear that wont be an option.

Looks like we will both be mailing them off to Henry Bros when sharpening needed. It's gonna suck to have to either be without it for a while or heaven forbid buy a second one to swap out when sharpening is required. Maybe we can do a deal to use each others bandsaw while the others is away for sharpening.

    Cheers, Ian

Another one here who has been using a resaw king on a laguna 14/12. Absolute beast of a blade. I'm not 100% convinced they're value for money compared to the non-TCT version or something along the lines of a lennox though, as the price difference is huge. I suspect the resaw king might only be worthwhile if you frequently cut veneers...

I am using the resaw king on a Laguna 14SUV. I have has it for some time now. It is being used for mainly resawing as I have another bandsaw. Whilst it cuts beautifully, when moving through timber like rosewood or Tassie blackwood you have to move slowly. Setup of the saw is critical otherwise over 13" the cut can bow. When I purchase the blade Gregorys could not provide me with the name of anyone who could sharpen them. Later I found out from them that they had someone on the Sunshine Coast who could do them, but there had been a learning curve. In the US they can send back to the manufacturer

I am yet to find anyone who can sharpen this blade. Was great while it was sharp, but Australian hardwoods are tough on this blade. Looks like I will be sourcing my resaw blades from Henry Bros from now on.Was an expensive experience

Bob, CSK in Deception Bay just north of Brisbane did a nice job on my Resaw King. They also make a carbide tipped blade, 3/4" for $180, from memory, with a tiny kerf

Henry Bros has done my RSK twice now, plus fixed a snappage. Very happy with the job they did.

Interesting woodPixel, Henry Bros only today told me they can't sharpen the RSK. Ordered another blade from them keep me going. Dengy might give CSK a call. Will be going to Maleny at the end of April so could drop it in.
