    Default What should I do?

I'm finding it incredibly hard to buy a bandsaw.

After searching the reviews online, the BAS-350 seemed like a pretty reasonable buy. Unfortunately Carbatec had none to show me last weekend, and won't have any in till possibly sometime next week.

I rang Timbecon and they only have one model available the TBB-14. It seems like a lovely bandsaw but I can't find any reviews of it which worries me.

Also, am I paying for something I don't need? Never having had a bandsaw before, or even using one, I don't really know what I should do.

I generally want to use the bandsaw to cut legs to shape for furniture and what-not, generally in Jarrah or Karri.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Regards

I can't give you info on either of those models, but a bandsaw is one of the most usefl purchases you will buy for your workshop. You need it for cutting curves, and can use it for cutting straight.

Sorry, when I was asking "Am I paying for something I don't need" I meant the extra for the TBB-14 over the BAS-350. The former is around $200 more than the latter.

Now the salesman tells me that the BAS-350 is not much good, but I've seen plenty of people in these forums say they reckon they are alright.

I don't mind paying the extra, but only if it means something worthwhile.

    Wongdai,

I totally agree with Alexs that the bandsaw is probably the most useful power tool in the workshop. I have blades from 1/8th to 3/4 in and so can cut tight curves and resaw planks up to 9 inches wide. Check out the bandsaw forum and you will find examples of just how versatile this tool really is. My advice is if you are serious about woodwork, buy the best bandsaw you can afford and learn how to get the best out of it. Curved legs will be the least of it's uses.

OK, I ended up getting the Sherwood TBB-14a from Woodstock. Looks like a really nice unit and I ensured the table was flat and square before purchase.

    Now to set it up!
