    Default JET Bandsaw part broken

Hi guys, thought I'd ask in case someone has a better idea. My JET 18" Bandsaw just had the up/down blade gard cog teeth break. It's made of plastic and it moves the gard up and down with the blade guides for adjustment for timber thickness. I guess it's off to the local CarbaTec store for a new part unless someone got a better idea please.

I'll have to have another look at mine, I thought mine was steel, but mine is an older model.

You may be able to get another suitable metal one off something else although you may need to get a new matching gear too

I will have a look tomorrow, but I thought it was metal too. Mine is one of the first models with the triangular main beam.

If it is plastic, I will be a bit bummed but it does open the option of having one 3D printed. Jet does not seem to carry a lot of parts in country.

I had a look at mine and scraped some of the black paint off. It is soft metal. I took a slither off with a Stanley knife. I guess it is cast aluminium or something similar

Hi guys, I had to do an emergency job to get things cutting again when I took it apart and removed the broken teeth that was gumming up the works. I might have been too quick to say it's made of plastic, sorry but it certainly looked like plastic and you know it's covered in grease so I'll put my hand up say I got it wrong. That said, it should be stronger than it is as it has not had much use since new but I guess JET can have a bad day.

Well, well, well, what would you know, it's made of plastic after all. I just replaced the gear and it is made of a plastic compound of some sort. I can carve bits off with ease but the good news is the replacement is made of mettle. Top makes for Launceston CarbaTec that did a great job in honouring the warranty (3 years) and great service to get the gear to me. I will be taking the gear into CarbaTec to show them, I think that JET probably know it's a problem and that's why it's now a metal gear that looks the part for the job.

They used to be metal, so I can only assume an attempt at trying to save money, but failed so reverted to metal again
