woodfast junior bandsaw tires
Hi I am new to the forum and new to woodworking so need some advice please. I have inherited a Woodfast Junior bandsaw (circa late 60s earl 70s) which I understand is a good little saw despite it's age. Unfortunately the tires are worn and as Woodfast itself doesn't exist anymore I dont know where to get replacements. The wheels are 10 inch diameter, 1 inch wide and 1/4 inch thick. I have stuck to imperial measurements as that is what it was when machine was made. One website I read said that you buy tires 2 inches smaller than diameter is this right and does anyone know where I could get them. Also rubber or urethane?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Perhaps post this in the Bandsaw section and I am sure you will get some useful advice.

Thank you. Someone else recommended them too. What did you use for the rebated groove in the wheels? I was thinking just a standard belt then covering it with the tires.
Cheers Cathy

Point of note the woodkid ones are not as wide as the wheels, Woodworking Machinery For Sale Australia - Machinery Maintenance Victoria stock the wider carter tyres which maybe a better choice.

Carter website states that the 10 inch tyres are only 7/8 inch wide.
As for the groove in the wheel, I went down to Clark Rubber and bought a strip of rubber a little bit thicker than the groove was deep, and glued it into the groove with contact adhesive. Actually the groove in my wheels was 2mm deep, and the closest rubber I could get without going less than 2mm was 3mm thick. You can easily trim down any excess with a sharp knife.

Ok
Now that I have a set of the orange tyres and a set of the blue Carter ones . The blue ones are much much better and are the correct width. With both the 66.5 inch blades are at the upper limit of adjustment.
I have also now moved my motor from in line (horizontal) to under the saw
