Thread: Woodfast Junior Restoration - Advice needed

Wheels are finished. Those urethane tyres are no joke to get on, having a second pair of hands is definitely recommended. Very happy with the fit though, the generic 10" Carter Ultra Blue tyres are the perfect width for this machine.

Couldn't get the damned phone to focus close enough for photos but the rubber insert underneath the urethane tyres made a really nice crown in the centre of the tyre. Not long now and they'll be up and spinning!

Life keeps getting in the way of finishing this but I've at least made a little more progress on the stand. Got the top cut down to size and I've figured out how I'm going to mount the switch box and lighting once I'm ready.

Just got back from Ikea, came home with one of the Kvart lamps. Lot less flexible than the one I was looking at previously however this one takes E14 bulbs and more importantly didn't have a wall wart unlike all the other LED lamps I looked at.





In a stroke of good luck the straight part of the lamp is threaded to connect to a bolt in the base, this should make my life a bit easier hopefully. The 6w bulb is also wayyy too bright for my needs, I'm going to find something with a bit less power.

Lamp is getting repurposed elsewhere in the house after some measuring and thinking about how I wanted to mount it, just wound up being too big for my needs. Going to check out others this weekend, otherwise I just put the top on the stand and mounted the switch in a project box I had knocking around. Bit oversized for the switch but will allow extra room for the lamp wiring and somewhere to mount a STOP paddle.

Also cut up a couple of new pins to hold the the two parts of the case together.

Box all done, just need to solder the switch and run the motor lead in.

Goodness me this bottom wheel was frustrating to get back on. Spent about two hours last night and another hour this morning before I got it in position. Glad I took my time though, as it was I still managed to put a couple of nicks in the paint. Also finished up the soldering on the switch.

Angle adjustment bracket all set up. There used to be an a little arrow indicating the current angle but it was bent to hell so I'm just going to to use a digital finder when I'm adjusting the table.



Word or warning if anyone ever needs to put one of these together. The square part pictured below can be oriented in two ways, if you find you can't get the angle adjustment locking lever working as expected then you need to flip the part around. This had me totally perplexed for about an hour until I realised what was going on.

Starting to look like a bandsaw again! New pins were a perfect fit although I managed to take a chip out of the paint while I was putting one in [emoji20]

Crappy lighting but you get the picture. Just need to install the table and blade guides and she's all assembled. Then it's onto cutting a hole for drive belt and mounting the motor.

What's all this then?

Your doing a great job. I have the same bandsaw and I'm looking to getting it going soon. I have the same Pope 1/4 hp motor too which I am going to use. I'm not bothered about it being open, I will just blow it out occasionally.

Got the motor all hooked up and mounted with a belt in place. Had to mount the motor backwards to save space so I reversed the motor to run anti clockwise.

Still need to mount the switch box but another rent inspection on the horizon so it's packed away for a few days while I deal with that. Tested as expected though, bought one of the $25 NVR switches from RS Australia and it works great. Great service from them, free postage and they delivered in 2 days from over east.

How are you planning to tension the belt?
