Should be ample room left over for the grinder too.
    Good idea!

Any suggestions for what to make the shelves out of? I'm not fussed about spending a bit of money on materials to make it look nice, seems like a huge waste to put so much effort in elsewhere and then use mdf.
Given you are thinking of a grinder on the other end if it was me I would use some 3 mm steel plate or 6 mm Al.
Di Caudillo Bros in Guidlford Road might have some clean scrap pieces you can use about that size.

The shelf underneath could be a metal mesh of some kind (it lets the sawdust and grinder stuff fall through to the floor) or hardwood board.
19 mm plywood edged with Al or steel or hardwood would also be OK.

Got a lead on a supplier for those switches at a much cheaper price, I'm just waiting on availability and I'm going to order a bunch of them. Found the ones with the big red stop paddle on them too which I haven't been able to find in Australia.

Once you get the details posting a link on here would be good.

Heard back from the Taobao seller I was talking to and he's out of stock. However I checked AliExpress and found a store that also sells a couple of those switches.

16A KJD17B - Aliexpress.com : Buy KJD17B Electromagnetic Switch Paddle ON/OFF Safety Switch 220V 16A For Table Saws Router Tables And Other Machines from Reliable switch pressure suppliers on Ruby 's store

20A HY56 - Aliexpress.com : Buy HY56 Push Button Safety Switch For 220V/380V Table Saws Router Tables, Industrial Electrical Appliances and Similar Devices from Reliable switch cabinet suppliers on Ruby 's store

Not as cheap as I was hoping but I haven't actually seen either of those in Australia.

Be careful, the HY56 doesn't explicitly say it is an electromagnetic switch.

I know they have the paddle built in but they expensive given the quality of the switching mechanism is unknown.
In 2011/12I I purchase several dozen similar switches to those from AE, some for me and others for the mens shed.
A couple are noisy (they hum) suggesting the EM side may not be working correctly.
We have a few switches left but I no longer use those switches on any machinery drawing more than a few amps.

For that sort of money I'd be looking at these switches from Radio Spares in Osborne Park - They don't have everything in stock but can get it in generally overnight.
Buy No Volt switch online from RS Components
If a switch doesn't work replacement is a trip out to osborne park instead of endless emails etc
All of the RS switches work to their full rating and are all still working fine.

The paddle is very useful not a deal breaker as a bigger and better paddle can easily be home made and added on.
My BIL has made a paddle for his drill press switch that is about 150mm wide and he can operate wit with his forehead.

Good points. I'll probably just the the ones from H&F and make a paddle for them.

Was off work today recovering from the dentists yesterday so I decided to try and track down the pulley off the motor. Turns out Blackwoods actually stopped doing a lot of that stuff a couple of years ago and only carry very common pulleys these days, they referred me to CBC Australia in Kewdale. Luckily made it there just before close and they were able to put one on order for me, should arrive on Monday and cost me just over $30 including freight.

Rear part of case is all primed up and I just managed to get the first coat of paint down. Going to have to finish it tomorrow, the weather just did not cooperate today unfortunately!

Replacement pulley has arrived, going to paint strip it tonight and paint it up white to match the other one. Looks like they might still be using the same cast, the lettering on the new one is much less defined.

Dammit. Seems either my surface prep wasn't as good as I'd hoped or there were some airborne contamination of the paint, I brushed over it with my hand this evening and the finish crumbled away. Had 24 hours to set which should have been more than dry enough for handling I would have thought.

Probably going to have to wait till the weekend so I can sand it back a little bit and paint when the weather is warmer. Wheels don't seem to have suffered the same fate so a bit unusual really.

No more progress on paint so I decided to crack on with the top and get it all cleaned up. Hit it with some scotchbrite pads and WD40 on an old orbital sander and then gave it a quick hand polish.

All taped up and ready for primer!

Another day of priming and painting. Sanded back the body and repainted to fix up the horrible job I did the other day, fingers crossed this goes a bit smoother.
