    Default Batteries: do 2x CR2016 = CR2032?

The batteries in my car remote have gone flat, so I opened it up just now to see what I need to buy. There are two CR2016 (3v each) stacked up. I have some spare CR2032 (3v) and thought I would just check....they seem to be the same thickness, but of course I can't check them with my metal vernier.

So the question is: are the two CR2016 still making a total of 3 volts or does the voltage double when they are stacked?

40 seconds later EDIT: I think Google has been my friend here. I searched for the thickness of the battery and the answer to my question is there: the CR2016 stack does indeed make 6 volts, so they have to be replaced with the same.

dimension-wise the two 2016 batteries vs 1x 2032 are exactly the same, but as you found when stacked they are in series, and therefore the voltage is added together and the pair of 2016 batteries is unsuitable to replace the single 2032...

You can - use a piece of plastic on one side and then measure the plastic and subtract that.

The "20" in the part number means 20 millimeters - the diameter of the battery.
The "16" or "32" is the thickness in tenths of a millimeter, i.e 1.6 mm for type 2016, and 3.2 mm for type 2032.
