    Cool Little Pack of...

Albizia saman... Raintree, or Monkeypod, call it what you will.

I HATE THIS STUFF. Every time you do something with it... it moves.
It's been cut for years and when I went to tidy the pack up the other day, every time I cut it... it moved. Some raintree seems quite stable but most seems to always be under a lot of tension and the tree this come off seems pretty much the average.

Thing is, it has a saving grace. It can be a drop dead gorgeous timber, and it takes a polish well. If you take the time to work it with care it can reward you with stunning pieces.

This sale is for a little pack of stray stuff thats been floating around in my shed since 2011. It's well and truly at EMC, though depending on where you are it might be beneficial to strip it out and let it drop a touch more moisture. Pretty wet up here ATM, and as I've mentioned before it will shift with moisture changes.

    Pack contents are:

Raintree/ Monkey Pod Albizia saman pack #
    030414/1
    piece count length width thickness
    1 2.1 250 50
    1 1.8 250 50
    1 1.2 250 50
    1 0.6 150 50
    1 1.2 125 50
    1 1.2 125 50
    1 1.8 75 50
    1 0.9 75 50
    1 2.1 250 25
    1 1.8 250 25
    1 1.2 250 25
    4 2.1 100 25
    1 1.8 100 25
    2 1.5 100 25
    3 1.2 100 25
    6 0.9 100 25

As you can see theres a fair bit of timber in it, enough to do a small project or make one hell of a lot of boxes and pen blanks.
Tally sheet does not allow for the fact it's been run through a four knife helical plane to tidy it up

There is of course a thickness reduction from that... I've already forgotten what it is but I'd say that it's now 45 and 22 and just needs the edges tidied up.

One of the 10" boards has a bark inclusion as pictured, another has a hairline drying split associated with a knot. Neither is a major defect and a little bit of epoxy will go a long way. There was a little bit of tear out along the arris on a few of them but nothing you can't tidy up with a hand plane, but as previously mentioned the sides are unfinished anyway. A few might trail out to a live edge in small sections, but again it's only very minor stuff.

    FREIGHT:
I'm a regular customer of a large courier service and get a bit of a discount. You'd be suprised how cheap I can get this shifted.
    Indicative rates to depot are
    Brisbane: $70
    Sydney: $ 75
    Melbourne:$ 90
    Adelaide: $100
    Perth: $ 160

Note: PRICE INDICATED IS TO DEPOT NOT TO YOUR DOOR. You'll have to arrange your own pickup from there. If you're a serious looker ask and I'll do you a quote to your nearest depot. It's not express courier and it might take a week to arrive but it's as cheap as you'll get anywhere on a pack this size.

PAYMENT: Direct Debit, EFT or Paypal. A 1.5% surcharge will be added to cover Paypal's costsif you choose that option. We will issue you with a Tax Invoice so you can try and claim some of your hard earned cash back from the thieves at the ATO.

    PRICE:
    $500 incl GST + freight.

RETURNS: If you aren't happy with your purchase we will happily refund your money provided you deliver the repackaged timber (ready for transport) back to the depot you got it from.

Forgot to mention, this is not an auction. Say you want it, pay the bill and it's yours.

    G'day John,

I notice your location says FNQ. I'll be looking for some timber soon and I'm still not sure where to go other than the big green shed. I'm located in Cairns if that helps. Where are you and do you often offload offcuts like this?

The timber will be for odd projects that I take an interest in.

    Thanks,

    Toddy.

    Hi Toddy,
We're based on the Tablelands however the cabinet timber is stored at our other facility outside of Tully.

Generally speaking we're a working sawmill rather then a retail operation. In practice what that means is that we're quite happy to sell small lots but we don't like walk in customers - it's just not cost effective to stop the mill to dig stuff out for people to look at. Usually our customers give us a call or email or whatever and let us know what they're looking for... or what they think they're looking for... and if we think we can help we arrange a mutually suitable time to come in and we have packs pulled waiting. The other thing being that if we haven't got what you're looking for we can often point you in the right direction. There's not that many sawmills left up here and I can often recommend who's most likely to have what it is you're after.

I'd tend to avoid all big green sheds if you're looking for anything other then cheap and ordinary. In Cairns the best place for specialty/ cabinet timbers is probably Wren:

Please feel free to give us a call on 40968261 when you're ready, or just shoot me a PM through this place.
    Regards
    John
