    Default Satin Sycomore

    So here's the story.
Last week I played "what wood is that" with a difference, the difference being I knew what the wood was and was going to give a bit to the first person with a correct answer.

So as the winner Timboz elected to put the timber up for auction here, with the proceeds to go to the Salvo's.

It's a single piece of Satin Sycomore... 1.2m long by 200 wide, 25mm thick. KD and clear H2 treated (pyrethrin). DAR will happen next week, so it'll be just a touch smaller then that... probably around 1.2 x 195 x 22 on the back side of the moulder.

The word "scarce" would apply, and it's not something you're likely to find outside a major timber merchants yard. It's not something you're likely to find in a lot of them anymore either. Yes, it looks like Coachwood... but it's not. Besides, you're not really buying timber here - you're donating to a worthy cause.

Winner has to pay the postage ex 4854, but I will crosscut it if you'd like to get it back to a standard postpack size.

Definately enough here to do a decent sized box, or possibly a matched pair of them.

Here's how this is going to work:

I'm going to hit the accept unconditional bids option and let it go.

The winner can elect to have me crosscut it if required. I'll talk with you about where you want it cut.

You pay me for the freight, or I'll COD it or whatever.

You donate your nominated bid amount to the Salvation Army. I'm not policing that... if you want to stiff the Salvo's and do some poor bastard out of a hot meal then you deserve whatever comes from that. Karma is a bitch when she catches you.

Get a receipt off them when you do... Timboz and I have made your timber purchase a tax deductible donation, which might make your other half more understanding of your compulsion to buy little bits of exotic timber at exorbitant prices.

Don't whine about how far away I am - this stuff only grows in a narrow strip of Far North Queensland and PNG. You can't get it anywhere else in the world unless you freight it from those locations.

I've got a couple of bits the same size here. I'll get a picture of all of them together next week after they're DAR and the winner can even choose his particular plank from the 4 or so that size in the pack.

John, you are the master story teller and tempter of we poor timber-loving mortals. How can I resist?
