Default Superolympia 300 Wide Belt Sander - Italian Made Industrial Woodworking Machine

I bought this machine from Graham Reynolds, the internationally acclaimed Australian Picture Framer, Guilder, Art Historian and creative genius when he closed down his workshops at East Brisbane about 18 months ago. He used it for sanding the excess off the keys on his keyed mitre joints on some of his picture frames and for sanding lengths of timber. This is a heavy duty 300mm wide industrial belt sander powered by 3 x 3 phase motors (one for the belt, one for the power feed unit and a third motor for dust extraction). The main motor that drives the belt is a whopping 7.5HP. My eyes were obviously bigger than my tiny home workshop when I bought this monster of a machine. I have since purchased a small drum sander of a scale to match my limited workspace, so this machine has got to go. My love affair with this big, brute of a machine is officially over!

This sander is great for thickness sanding (using the power feed unit), or swing the power feed unit out of the way to use it for edge sanding or for sanding on projects where you otherwise sand with a belt or orbital sander. The 300mm wide belts travel across two rollers that are level with the outfeed table then down diagonally to the right, horizontally to the left then diagonally back up to the top two rollers again, allowing adequate time for the belt to cool before hitting the workpiece again (redusing the heating of resins in timbers that clog sanding belts and also reducing the burning effect on the timber - the same principal that more conventional industrial wide belt sanders use.

The amount of stock removed when sanding can be set by adjusting the height of the infeed table, in the same way you would adjust the depth of cut on a jointer.

It has a switch box with 3 switches, the 3 motors can be operated independently of each other

Comes with a few new sanding belts and the fence that can be angled or just used at 90 degrees when edge sanding (much like a jointer fence).

Due to its weight (approx 500-600kg), it would need to be collected by a crane truck or hire truck with hydraulic tail lift. I have this machine sitting on a hardwood skid that I made up for it so that I could move it with a pallet jack. I am happy for this skid to go with the machine.

This sander was hard wired at it's last location, so you would need to get a sparkey to connect a 3 Phase lead and plug (I have bought these and they will be supplied with the machine). I also replaced the dust extraction motor with a brand new one (this new motor will need to be connected to the switchbox)

I have priced this machine to sell because I need the floor space that it is currently taking up.

Apologies for the bad photos. (These were taken under the lower part of my split level house with poor lighting) The first photo is one I grabbed from the net - it is the same model as mine but not the actual machine - notice it is missing the dust extraction unit on the right hand side of the machine)

Please ask if your require more info. Happy to work in with anybody interstate who wants to send a truck to pick it up. Local Buyers: please don't say you will take it and then turn up with a ute and ask for a hand to lift it on!
