An Acrylic infused dovetail
Finally got around to making a saw handle out of some infused maple burl. No coloring was added. So far I have been pleased with the results. Two coats of Arm R Seal. 12" dovetail, 16 ppi x 8* rake x 0* fleam.

Hi Ron,
Nice work as usual. Can you describe the infusion?
Cheers,

Sorry, I've been away.
1) submerge dried wood in acrylic resin, ( which ever brand you choose ), 2) Apply vacuum via vacuum pump to -30mmHg until the wood stops bubbling to achieve complete vacuum. May take up to 24 hours depending on wood species, etc.. 3) Release vacuum while wood is still submerged and let soak for several hours to several days for passive infusion. Again depending on wood volume and species. 4) Wood should not float at this point. Remove wood, wrap in foil and bake at approx. 200* ( time depending on volume of wood ). 6) After cool, unwrap and clean off excess acrylic and finish prepping wood the same as normal. ( Wood WILL warp during process ) In a nut shell, that's it. Some oily and very dense woods will not infuse well. Some of the Aussie woods will no doubt be in that category. Best wishes.
