Default I think I'm seeing things.

I think it is all done with mirrors or to be more specific, the reflection off the saw plate.

I'm seeing things but I'm not getting it
Is the blade tilde to the side?
    Gabs on the saw bolts?
    Saw slot not central

    Am I missing something

    Matt,

These are pictures of a couple of 'premium' saws cadged off of eBay. I was somewhat surprised at what appeared to be a number of defects as the saws are listed as new or barely used.

Things that may be due to camera, lens effects, lighting or shot angle: Blade slot not straight and or handles out of kilter. Gaps between bosses/cheeks and saw plates.

Things I'm pretty sure I see: Screws and nuts not seated well. Back mortise too deep and offset.

Things I know I'm seeing: Poor grain orientation on the open handle saw.

    Cheers,
    Rob

P.S. Here's the off side of the tenon saw showing similar kinds of issues seen on the open handle saw., I couldn't get it to load the other day.

    Thanks Rob
    For putting me straight
Yes I see your concerns now especially if there being put forward has "new"

    Cheers Matt

    Matt,

Sorry, didn't mean to come off as a pedant.

I've little doubt that these are new saws. I just wanted to make sure that I'm seeing what I think I am.

    Cheers,
    Rob

Following on from Matt's comments, my mirrors theory is my benevolent side coming to the fore .

The auctions of these two saws are completed, both sold, so now I'll post the other sides.

As in the other pictures it appears that some of the screw heads are above the faces of the cheeks/bosses of the handles and that the recesses in the handles for the screw heads are a bit big. There also appears to be a gap between the bottom of the saw back and the corresponding mortise in both handles, or am I seeing things?

This is a close-up of the tenon saw handle that the seller posted. The red arrows indicate areas that look like gaps between the screw heads and their recesses and or the screw heads project above the surface of the handle. The green arrow appears to show an area where the shaping of one facet of the saw handle is inconsistent with that of the opposite side.

    One of two certainly.

Quite possibly not at the quality level you would expect.

The posting said nothing about these saws being seconds. I know that BA does sell seconds that are blemished, used or returned saws.

in the hands of the unscrupulous, a "second" will not be so described
