    Hand Saw Making & Repair

So get yourself a nice spine and some split nuts:
Hand Saw - Maintenence & Care : Spine, Stiffener, for 12 inch (305mm) CARCASE SAW, BRASS
Hand Saw Maintenance : Screw & Split Nut Set, Blackburn, for hand Saw Handles, SOLID BRASS, per set

And you can pickup a non-toxic nickel plating kit from Caswell.
EN1 Electroless Nickel Kit 2.4 Litres | Caswell Australia

    Should look a treat!
    Thanks
    Hi Roller,
That is certainly a game changer now immmm,[emoji41]

Default Very ott welded saw back for a back saw.

Well this just happened 10 min ago,
I’m still not out of the woods so to speak, and this is very saw edge cutting evolution stuff and being a relatively thin edge could still fall and crash to the work shop floor.
On a positive note that is my first oxy weld in well over 12 years, I’m pretty stocked with alone.
Actually very stocked,as I boosted to Sally “I’ve still got it”she politely smiled back,

My apologies for any who have been eagerly awaiting my results which ever way they may go

    Let the grinding commence,

    Cheers Matt.

    That looks good Matt

I had prepared two pieces of steel but did not get around to welding them. Not even sure quite where the steel is now!

    Paul,
I never knew you were secretly going to have a go behind my back.
Sun Tzu would have been so proud, but you let him down[emoji849].
I didn’t actually bevel the back as I proposed I forgot and was to inpatient to show off.

If I do it again, and I probably will, I will try to remember to bevel the pieces before welding them up.

All up I think it was a worthwhile venture the back stayed remarkably true and straight, and for the want of being able to acquire saws backs in steel with out slitting them I’m happy.

    Cheers Matt

Good job Matt, now do it in summer! If you have a gasless MIG I can understand why you want to use Oxy.

    Thanks Chris,
Ye that brings back memories off working on cars welding in summer in overalls[emoji849] in tin sheds!

I see you spotted the gas less MIG
Oxy is soooo much nicer to use than ANY MIG.

One point ,and I was a little bit concerned my self but not as much as some here.
Was the perceived warping of the back.
Nothing moved, nothing warped and I wasn’t clever with some hammers before taking any pics.

But I do put that down to the use of the angle iron clamps and vice.

    Cheers Matt.

I have a three phase ESAB MIG that is absolutely golden to use but I know what you mean. It is funny how the new fad is TIG which really is just an electronic version of Oxy but you have to have a science degree to set one up before starting to weld.

    Chris
Ive never used TIG as you know, but your right from what I’ve seen and read about.
Possibly two science degrees, and froth on top.
OXY is easy to set up
Finish your coffee place blow torch in hand turn bottles on turn blow torch acy on light feed in oxy
    Set neutral flame.
    Weld [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]

Ok I’m being a bit flippant as my my mother would say.

    Cheers Matt.
    Note point.
A certain gentleman AKA Mr Bushmillar,
Has been emailing me with questions, for which I have answered, and I have heard he will be possibly attempting a welded saw back in the very near future.
So if we could place a little of pressure on him to see his out come.
That might be beneficial to all.

    Cheers Matt,

I just leave this hear Paul [emoji849].

But I could also secretly weld one up and send it up your way.
No one will ever know I did it [emoji57],

    Cheers Matt.
