Spear & Jackson Backsaw Handle.
A handle shape I have always wanted to work with.
What concerned me was the lack of ideal beam strength within the neck line specifically where it branches into the cheek. By taking advantage of some scope within the finger hole
I was able to resolve that issue.
I now have a extra handle shape available in 3 sizes that I can later use.

Strength through the neck of the handle is best achieved through the use of directional long grain. By broadening the neck line I am now in a better position to achieve that. The bottom rail should now be in a better position long term to withstand the applied forces of the saw stroke. IMO

Hi Stewie,
That is an exceptional looking handle and no doubt one you will be able to make look and perform even better than the original.
I thought you were having a break from this, haha,
Keep up the great work, it is always inspirational,
Many Thanks,
Richie

Hi Richie; Nothing too demanding at this stage. Apart from playing more rounds of golf. I am also taking the opportunity to learn about pdf formatting. Very handy design tool. I can now print off my backsaw handle designs in 5 different hand sizes; extra small through to extra large.
regards Stewie;

I cant see there is much gained by S&Ps use of a reinforcement dowel on their closed non breakable handles. The value would be restricted to an open handle. IMO

Now there is frustration to a tee, , that pdf formatting sounds like a great idea and something i will chase up, Cheers, Richie
