    Default Mitre 10 Mega

Out driving the other day and saw this sign:

    We're building the
    world's biggest
    DO-IT-WITH-US store
    Mitre 10
    MEGA

This was at the corner of Wells Rd & Springvale Rd, Chelsea Heights. So I had a look at the Mitre 10 web site to see what it was Mega :

    What is Mitre 10 MEGA?
Mitre 10 is one of Australia’s best known brands with 45 years experience in the hardware/home improvement industry and over 700 stores Australia wide. With a strong focus on its customers Mitre 10 is continually developing its business to meet their changing needs.

We will be launching the latest addition to the Mitre 10 family. Mitre 10 Mega. The world’s first Do-It-With-Us store.

A full business strategy is now in place to implement this newest addition to the group. The Mitre 10 Mega franchise will be the companies biggest retail operation covering a complete home renovation experience. A true one stop shop.

Mitre 10 Mega will feature everything from kitchens and bathrooms to decorating and garden, and of course hardware products, backed up by an unparalleled level of service and choice. It will be the place to browse, get new ideas, expert advice and a wide range of great products. All at the best price. It will be the ultimate home improvement store delivering a world class retail operation for both personal and trade customers.

I wonder if this is how they going to compete with Bunnings in the future? This must be their next step in marketing following on from the TV shows "DIY Rescue" and "Lets Do It". Which really push the brand to all those DIYers.

Has anyone seen a finished store yet?
To err is human, to really stuff up requires a computer!

If they become too much of a threat then the big "B" will buy them out.
Now is that being too cynical?

    Thumbs up

HAHA, Mitre10 MEGA will still be a franchise. For Victoria, the MEGA range will be owned by Bruce Matheson. Now he is one guy Bunnings couldnt afford to buy out and to be perfectly honest, he could buy Bunnings from wesfarmers with the change in his cars console.

Get excited about Mitre10 MEGA, as it is nothing like Bunnings and is not trying to compete with Bunnings.

I write this as nothing to do with Mitre10 nor Bunnings, simply an outside observer.

Mitre 10 is an interesting group.

It was started by Arthur Scurr who owned Scurrs hardware & Mt Gravatt they are also linked with Tru value and one other chain.

I found some of this out when I did a service call years ago to the bris warehouse ( the A T Scurr Wharehouse )

I seem to think mitre 10 isn't for sale & is in a prety good position to compete with bunnings but on different terms.

    thus the new approach.
I've herad murmorings up here but havn't seen a new development yet.

Mitre 10, Tru Value & Thrifty Link are all part of the same group. A friend of mine was going to start a hardware store up here (with me as the trade sales rep) and was dealing with this group. Fell thru because of a lack of a suitable site.

Don't ever believe somebody couldn't be bought out or taken over. Everybody or every company has a price. Just look at BHP.

And that is the same don't ever believe that any company couldn't go broke.

It's like my Dad used to say when he was in business himself: every business is on the market always - for a price. If the cheque was big enough, it wouldn't matter how much change you have in your glovebox.

We're getting one of those Mega things down here too (actually I'm in Sydney at the moment but you know what I mean). There was talk of a Bunnings at one stage but that appears to have fizzled out. I'm looking forward to it personally. I really miss shopping for hardware with a trolley.

Maybe their timber supply will be better I mainly use ply and will go to a ply specialist in the area to get it mostly, but sometimes I only want a small size of it and bunnings is the go for this as the specialists dont usually like cutting up thier 2400x1200 sheets for small orders. Only problem with bunnings is the quality of ply is not always the best for the work I do.

So if someone could supply good quality ply that you can get off shelf in small sizes 900x600 etc.. it would be most welcome
