Default Posting pictures without permission on internet

Is it lawful to post images on the internet without consent/permission of the owner and if not what recourse can one take to remedy the problem
Can Google remove the images for example? Do I have to contact them?
    Any advice appreciated...MM

This is a very tough situation to get something removed unless you know the location that the photos were posted and thus talking to the website administrators.

This article may be of interest to you as it deals with unauthorized use of pictures.

Also Google (and Facebook and Pinterest etc ) will remove unauthorized pictures from its search engine/website if you advise them. Search for your photos and report them to them.

You should also report them to the service provider that's hosting his website.

Chris, I have begun to watermark any photo's of my work, that I post on the net. That way there is evidence that the pic is mine.

Most service providers and web site hosting companies will react very promptly to a "DMCA Takedown Notice." The details are explained on the Artslaw website, simple process that works well. I had a person in Mexico posting images of my rather unique spinning tops with the inference that they were his work, a DMCA notice issued to two hosting service soon had them removed.

Be careful about scammers stealing complete websites for the purpose of selling your work or goods. I know of two instances in the USA where wood turners had their sites copied with the financial and payment details changed to the scammers details for the sole purpose of ripping off customers. Difficult to have dealt with and both have suffered reputational damage because the customers tracked down the "legit" site and have wanted the good or restitution.
