Mackay Tafe Auction
Hi RC,
I went down and spent some coin. There were a few bargains but not that many.
I was looking at an Arborga ER825 radial arm drill. It went for $1800. The manual handling aspect was too much for me. The machine was in a room with no fork lift access (so much for my plans!). I would have needed jacks and skates to get it out. There was a big air compressor in the same building with a wall built in front of it after it had been installed. Who ever bought that will have been having fun getting it out!
The 3 smaller Colchester Master 2500s went for over $5k The longer bed Triumphs went for around $4k, there was a Hawcheon, that must have been the instructors lathe, went for $5k, that was probably the bargain of the day. A bridgeport with slotting head and fair amount of tooling was a bit over $5k as well. A Takasawa 800 lathe went pretty cheap, no more than $2k I think. The Kearns 800S horizontal borer went for $1500, with a locked cupboard of tooling. I put in an early half hearted bid on this, but did not push it as the 2200kG manual handling task was going to be an issue. One bloke scored a 3 Metre bed endless belt sander from the wood shop for $200, also a pretty good deal, if you have a use for it.
I came away with a 1200mm sheet metal bender on a welding table and a smallish 2 door metal cupboard that I discovered had a fair bit of rust in the bottom after I got it out from between the other cupboards. Oh, well that's why I have a sheet metal bender I guess!
There was an awful lot of scrap metal particularly in the automotive workshop, most of it found buyers though???? There was an ancient Hercus drill press in one corner, complete with flat belt drive. An OHS nightmare at a TAFE I'm sure!
The auctioneer got through the 720 lots in about 5 1/2 hours!
I was standing in line to pay my account and a couple of blokes behind me were saying how when they went to TAFE there they had tried to damage and destroy the lathes etc. The joys of second hand equipment!
Equipmenter.... Projects I own
Lathes - Sherline 4410 CNC
Mills - Deckel FP2LB, Hardinge TM-UM, Sherline 2000 CNC.

Another Ebay Scam?
I think I just got scammed...
I bought an item from an ebay seller and a few days later got this reply...

So, having established that I want to purchase an item ( probably listed as a loss leader ) the seller pulls the sale, and takes a punt that I'll buy from his other higher priced store...
At this point in time, i'm $10 up, but will drop $100 if I buy from his other store... of course I could be paranoid, but something smells fishy...

G'Day Ray,
Had a similar experience with Uxcell recently, purchased a caliper at a bargain price ($19.66) 2 days later the price had jumped to $39.95. Surprise, surprise the caliper never arrived, went through the usual song and dance to get a refund, got the money back, but being stuffed around for 4 weeks makes me very wary of ever dealing with them again.
Regards,
Martin

25th November 2013, 01:27 PM #2558Refer it to Ebay and see what they say.
I've bought off Uxcell as well, sometimes it's all good and sometimes it's a nightmare... (I'm still waiting for some overdue motor start caps from them, previously I've had stuff arrive from them within a few days )
I've discovered the scam has a name, it's called "bait and switch"... except in this case the switch is not explicit.. so it's difficult to determine if it's genuine or not...
I found the same item on-line at a better price, but not as good as the original price through ebay..
Regards
Ray

How much of a hurry are you in?
Check completed listings....... them maybe wait until he relists and make another $10
Stuart
p.s. Another update on my ebay issues. The seller has started relisting things...... he even sold a Topcon TRC NW3 Retinal eye camera for $247.5, so if the buyer pays with paypal do you think I get the money? Strangely although he had 6 or so listings that ended today, nothing shows up in his completed listings. Is there a delay? I've never noticed one before.

Non op wire EDM at Toowoomba
This would have been a cool toy to tinker with and get going, plus its was only 40 minutes away. But I have all these other projects that I'm already not working on so why add another to the list? I'm not too upset that I missed out.

There is a Maho MH700 universal mill on ebay at the moment. In Ballarat with 1 day to go. It has no accessories and from my checking around they and parts are unobtainium

Well; I weakened and tried to make some enquiries about the history and condition of the Maho 700 in Ballarat.
The reply was come from Sydney 5 years ago. You come and have a look.
He really wants to sell it (NOT). What is he trying to hide? Maybe hopes someone will buy it and quite possibly its problems sight unseen.
I know if I had a fish nibbling at the bait I would be as helpful as possible to make the sale.
