He really wants to sell it (NOT). What is he trying to hide? Maybe hopes someone will buy it and quite possibly its problems sight unseen.

I know if I had a fish nibbling at the bait I would be as helpful as possible to make the sale.

So you would be denigrating the seller for stating where the machine came from and how long ago it came and suggesting that you have a look at. Really what more do you want or think the seller should do. I would be doing the same as the seller and not dealing into the hands of idiots. If you are interested go have a look.

    Hi Ken,
If it is who I think it is then this guy knows less about machines than I know about brain surgery.
Any idea where it is located?

Hi Phil, are you looking for customers? I might be able to help..

Hi Ken, Even if it's in need of a bit of work, I'd still be tempted, the Maho's I've seen are top of the line mills, plus, you need something to keep that Italian Rossi in line...

The CNC version of the Maho 700, has an incredibly complex electric gearbox change system. I'd start by trying to run it and go through all the gears, if that fails i'd walk away... gearbox repairs on a Maho could be pricey.

    Ray

Well thanks Pipeclay for publicly calling me an idiot. Maybe you would like to come and do that face to face.

My point is that if he was serious about a sale he could have at least furnished enough information to a prospective purchaser to at least want them to make a full day trip for the inspection. Anyway it closes about lunchtime today and I have more important jobs here to undertake.

Phil, no idea where in Ballarat. I lost interest when he started evading questions about the mills condition. It could be a money pit also as at least one way cover is damaged and they are about $600 landed. The vertical quill has to be suspect as the top cover is missing and top bearing exposed. Replacement parts are next to impossible to source apparently.

Well; back to house repairs; that will at least ensure some matrimonial peace.

    Ray,

I am sorely tempted because it is a Maho, but I got caught out with lies with the Rossi and it appeared to be in much better condition. I don't think that the mill is under power and cannot get an answer to its running condition. It appears to be a manual mill.

I'm late to this party. It ends in 34 minutes. I know that guy, done a few jobs for him. Craig S. And the machine is in Delacombe.

I've always found him to be a decent bloke, short on words, but that's just him. Truth be known, you have to go and inspect a machine like that.

    Regards Phil.

{Adding on edit} Just watched that end, Zero bids at the $3,300 starting price, so its still available. I've been threatening to visit that guy, to look at some other work. If any one is going to look at it, let me know and I'll try to take a day trip.

He had a surface grinder for sale on ebay early/mid last year, I rang him about it and he was happy to talk about it back then... He came across as easy to talk to...

Short on words; that's an understatement Phil. Like pulling teeth.

I was trying to work out if it was worth my while to make the trip for an inspection. I couldn't get an idea of the machine condition; he just seemed to evade the questions as if there was something to hide.

    Phil,

I have no idea who the seller is; he has relisted as no bids.

Not a good sign is the cover off the top of the vertical spindle. Special Gamet roller bearings. Big dollars and they run direct on the spindle. Even worse is a replacement spindle .....10000 euros and that price is a couple of years old. Best you could do is buy a 2nd hand head from the US for about $3000 delivered by sea cargo as it weighs about 55 kg and still hope for the best.

I am glad I lucked onto the article about spindle cost today. Moving along; nothing to see here!

    Ken
