Starting wood carving
Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum. I am looking to start woodcarving as a hobby and would like some advice on what's the best chisels, knifes and best type of rotary tool to buy?

Welcome. The first thing to do is to decide on a style of carving that you admire and want to do. Flat plane, chip, relief, kolrosing, in the round and so on.
I ask this because the tools, the gouges, are different to get the best results most quickly. I have been carving in the round for some years now.
I can do some relief carving but don't own tools for the other styles!
For hand work, Pfeil is probably the best. Others would be Henry Taylor, Ashley Iles, Stubai, Hans Karlsson
Power carving. Big or little? How much use and power? Hanging motor tools like Fordom are the best, Proxxon and Dremel are good.
You can buy Stihl chainsaws with a little 12" bar and a tip no more than 20mm diameter.
Is Arbortech still in business (power gouge)?
For sheer frightening noise and utter violence, your best bet is a 4.5" angle grinder with a King Arthur "launcelot blade".
This is a disk rimmed with saw chain, turning 12,000rpm.
There. I derive great satisfaction from the beginning drawings through the process to the last brushload of finish.
Hope you do, too.
