I have black poly (12mm) and always use the ratchet clips. If you use in-line taps get the green ones as the black ones burst (avail Bunnings). On my PVC hoses i use Hoselink fittings. Keep the surfaces free of dust/dirt to make em last. Also when connecting to poly take 1mm extra from the O ring gap (more of a U ring haha).
Stiff "pale blue" caravan hoses last better than cheap PVC.

Gave up on the Hoselink, too bulky a setup for each connection, and the tabs are sharp (SWMBO complained)

I use the brass fittings, pretty simple. Once a year or so undo them, cut off the last one inch of hose that is compressed and worn a little, replace the o-rings (just because) and clear out any junk, and you're good to go for another year.

Well I bought some Hoselink stuff, and the quality is excellent, and as Chris says, so is the service. Ordered Thursday, delivery Friday.

Now I reckon they are working on stupendous profit margins, and that's ok, I was happy to pay. To give you an idea, the hose set that I purchased was $115, but they sent me an email today to say it would be 35% off at the Orange show in a week, and they must still be making a reasonable profit in that discounted price given that they have to pay for their stand, staff, accom etc etc.

But I am not disgruntled about that. Nay, the service is excellent. My hose had fittings that were corrupted, the seven function nozzle has a slight drip, and the standard trigger nozzle puts out a slightly "furry" jet like all the rest of them. I consulted them before I ordered and was told "still a bit furry but better than most". Well I disagree - maybe not even as good as most, but the action and build quality can be felt.

OTOH the 7 function head puts out a pure cylinder of water on "jet" - never seen anything like it - brilliant high pressure column of water.

So the upshot is that they are replacing the current 7f because of the drip, replacing the two trigger nozzles with two 7fs, and of course replacing the two retarded fittings on the hose.

And they don't want me to return the other three heads - that's very, very reasonable (and gives lie to the profit margins of course).

Yes Bob, they are tight and hard to put together - I like that - they don't leak, although I'm yet to use them in anger. As for SWMBO not being able to change them - pfffft - Lola knows that hose refers to silk tubes that legs get inserted into . Beyond that........maybe some time last millennium was when she last operated a garden hose.

No WAIT! I saw her hosing out the cat litter a couple of months ago, but no adjustment of hose required (and the garden hose didn't need any either )

All hose fittings are great for a few months until the sun or a heavy frost gets to them (sun-plastic, frost- metal). If you use metal or plastic fittings you need to wrap them in hessian or whatever to protect them from the elements. Otherwise be prepared to revisit your local rip off hardware store every couple of years.
