Artme, your so right, could never happen ever.
You'll get fruit wit one plant, as we did, more plants are better though. The plant hat grew from our compost heap was the only one we had for over 10 years, it produced fruit after about 4 years. So in my book a monoecious avocado produces yummy fruit.

They grow Avo's commercially here in NW Tasmania. Both sexes of flowers appear on the same tree. The second tree improves pollination rather than cross-pollination; its to do with flowering coincidence. Cheers.

Interesting ,Termimonster. Reminds me of something I read about or heard years ago about alpine flora relying on insects other than bees for pollination (too cold for bees). No doubt wind plays it's part as well.
