That's Not A Rose
The temptation to say "That's not a rose: This is a rose!" was just too great so apologies for such a cliché , apologies to Crocodile Dundee and apologies to anybody else who wants one.
The flower is small. Perhaps 50mm across:

This is the base of the stem

and this is the rose bush that resides in our back yard.

A couple more shots. It towers above a shipping container with a gable roof on top.

And has completely enveloped an old water tank stand. The stand itself would be 2.4m high.

I don't know anything about the variety other than it is a climbing rose and has clearly been there for a long time. Much longer than the twelve years we have been at this address. I estimate it is a bout 3.6m high and we take no notice of it at all in terms of watering or fertilising. We just trim off the branches that hang down and threaten to snag our clothes , skin and eyes as we walk past. It is a haven for a multitude of, mainly, small birds.Bushmiller;

Thanks Ray
It sounds as though Sue has nailed it. I will have to investigate further.

Since when did they start grafting roses onto California Redwood root stock?

This rose is quite a prolific flowerer and coupled with a mild winter up here:

While I'm posting flower pix this is a succulent with a rather amazing flower. I felt it didn't warrant it's own thread so it is piggy backing on the rose.

The flower is a little on the top heavy side so we string it back to.....

The Jade bush. Another monster, with a stem on it that is thicker than a man's arm and rivals the rose. (Those Redwood root stocks come in handy Skew.) SWMBO trims it once in a while with the hedge trimmer (top and sides) and I clip it so it does not barricade the side entrance to my shed (see above pic).

Interesting thing about the Jade bush is that the leaves are edible. They have citrus taste, but a little sharp. I quite like them. The lady I bought the Euphorbia from told me I should eat four Jade leaves every day. I regret to say I have fallen down on that, but I am off to pick the quota for today right now. SWMBO can look forward to a day bereft of enthusiasm

I commented to SWMBO today that the rose would have a thousand flowers on it. She said "And the rest!"

The weird thing about the season up here is that we have emerged from one of the most devastating droughts I have experienced into a relatively good start to Spring. I should qualify that by saying we are not completely out of drought, but we did get a small amount of rain through winter and that too is unusual. Coupled with a mild winter the plants have gone from completely confused to mildly ecstatic. Although my rose (SWMBO has her own rose garden) has always been fairly impressive, this is easily the best display I have seen.
Ordinarily I would not be so effusive about a plant, but with this one I just can't help myself.
