Foley saw filer an 2400 km
Last Wednesday(I think)a Foley saw re tooth er an filer came up for sale on a Facebook group that I am a member off.
Without missing a beat I made a decision to buy them, pretty much on the spot, they don’t pop up all that often an I really didn’t have time to think.
I also had know chance of viewing them before purchase, as they were deep in the North of NSW, an I live in Melbourne,[emoji20]
So after explaining too my better half, that I needed a sum off money transferred from my bank account too a complete stranger for a piece of green machinery.
We made the decision to drive too Murrurundi NSW over the course of three days.
The trip was basically uneventful, except that Sal got food poisoning from one off the over night stops, meaning the Sunday drive was completely up too me, being a 12 hour drive day.
So Sunday evening we arrive back in Melbourne, the re toother an filer is unloaded.
Monday morning I’m back on the highway , for work an won’t be back in Melbourne till late this coming Saturday.
I haven’t even had a chance to drool over my new toys yet.
Plus I’m under immense pressure too finish my squirrel tail plane, plus there is a a small backsaw nearly finished, an a panel saw handle needed to be finished.
I think I be busy this year.
Cheers Matt.
(Apologies if I sound whinny, I’m actually very very very very happy[emoji41][emoji6]).

Cool! Do I foresee a full restoration job here?

Chief,
No would be the short answer, longer answer is I would love to restore it, but my plans will be too get it up an running, it was advertised as running but I have my doubts there.
So I hope I can get them both up and running, and then “maybe” make them pretty in the distance future, but this year hopefully there will be some big changes in how lives in a good way.
But that will slow down bench time for quite a bit.
Cheers Matt.

Potentially that is such a good purchase (depending on how much work is needed). My level of envy is the same colour as the machine. Like you said, these machines do not surface often in Australia.
I am seriously thinking of moving closer to you: Just to help out where I can of course. No underlying agenda here .

Interesting machine. I have a Disston (see: Disston Bandsaw Blade Sharpener). I am actually thinking of selling it but have to give it some thought as it's such a cool and rare bit of kit!

Nice score Matt. I saw one of these in a YouTube video a while ago. Is it too cheeky to ask what it cost?

Hi Matt,
Well done. Which model retoother did you get? You missed a photo.
What size ratchet bars did you get?
Did you get saw carriers as well as the ratchet bars?
Lots of information here: Foley Filer

I’m currently one very happy little vegemite [emoji851]
After a little cleanup, a few scratching my head,i just punched some teeth in a scrap piece of 1095 spring steel(know idea of gauge possible 0.028)
I don’t even know the TPI
An yep lots still too figure out, but its a big start, one issue it’s bloody hard to get a few of the dies actually cutting,in relation to trying to set the plate an carrier bar up.
Cheers Matt.
